Bread Machine Wheat Bread
Am I the only one that has dusted off their bread machine recently? My husband loves homemade bread and this one is definitely his favorite.

This Maple Wheat Bread recipe is a light wheat bread because it is part all-purpose and part wheat flour. My husband is very picky about his bread and won’t eat full wheat bread.
This is our compromise. Since our neighbor sugars our maple trees for us each spring, I try to use maple as my sweetener whenever possible. This is one of my favorite maple syrup bread recipes.
How long this bread machine wheat bread takes to cook will depend on the bread machine. You can either use the “white” function or the “wheat function” depending on how dark you like your bread.
I would recommend checking it a few times as it gets close to being done.
Can I substitute whole wheat flour for bread flour in a bread machine?
If your bread machine has a setting for whole wheat bread, it has been designed to cook this type of loaf a little bit longer than it would a traditional white bread. Whole wheat flour rises more slowly than white bread.
But, because this loaf is part whole wheat and part white, you may not need the extra time. It will really depend on your bread machine. Try it on white and add a bit more time if you need to.
Can I use all white flour?
Yes, you can use this recipe to make a loaf of white honey bread. Just use the “white” setting on your bread machine rather than the “wheat” setting to be sure it isn’t too dark.
Is bread machine bread healthier than store-bought?
It depends on your definition of healthy. All bread contains carbohydrates which convert to sugar. If you are watching carbs, bread is bread.
But, if your goal is to control the ingredients that your family eats and to eliminate things like corn syrup, then this recipe is better than what you would typically find in the store.

Which flour is best for bread making?
When it comes to your bread machine, a combination of all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour works best. This provides added fiber while still making a relatively light and flavorful homemade bread.
How do you make homemade bread last longer?
Before you slice it, you can simply leave it on the counter. Once you have sliced the bread, place it in a closed paper bag. I also really like the bread machine containers because there is less waste.

What do I need to make this recipe?
You will need a bread machine to make this recipe. Any model should do. But, you may have to make slight adjustments depending on what type you have.
You will also want to have a wire rack to cool the bread once it’s done cooking. This helps prevent the bottom from getting soggy.
What should I put on bread machine wheat bread?
Can you freeze homemade bread?
I usually freeze at least half of my loaf of homemade bread. That way it stays fresh until I want to have a slice.
All you need to do is to slice the entire loaf. Put each piece in a freezer bag and freeze it. If you want to place more than one piece in the freezer bag, make sure that they are separated with parchment paper or wax paper so that they don’t freeze together.

What loaf size is this? 1, 1.5 or 2lb?
This is 2 lbs but would work for smaller if you adjust the time. Thanks for stopping by.
I made your recipe yesterday and was surprised how good and soft this bread is. I will be making this bread over and over again. I think I will try 3 Tbsp of honey next time instead of maple syrup. Thanks for the recipe, it was the first I tried and so glad of the success of this bread recipe.
Thank you so much! I am so glad that you enjoyed it!
This looks fantastic! Will be asking for this bread maker for my birthday. I have some old-fashioned bread recipes that I use often but this looks simple and delicious!
Fantastic! I’m really enjoying mine!
I love the smell of homemade bread…and it is so nice to be able to control the ingredients!
Me too, Diane! I love knowing exactly what goes into it!
This sounds so good! I made so, SO much homemade bread with my Gram when I was growing up. That was all by muscle power, but I’d prefer to pick up a new bread machine to replace ours that broke, and try your recipe that way, instead!
It’s a lot easier to make it with a bread machine by far!
Looks yummy and welcoming. There’s nothing like a fresh loaf of bread to make you feel at home. I bet the maple syrup tastes wonderful and adds a touch of sweetness! I can taste it now!
Totally agree. It’s a great thing to offer guests when they stop by too!
i’ve never made bread yet, but i think i’m going to give it a try. its just so costly to buy organic bread. i don’t have a bread machine though, so i’m going to have to go the old fashioned route.
You can definitely do it that way too. I like the bread machine because it saves me time.
Yum! I think I forget about maple too often! I need to make this bead with it… yummy
If you try it, let me know what you think!
Oooh, any type! This machine looks so simple to make, I need one of these.
Definitely! It takes all the work out of the process.
GF options in a bread machine is huge! I usually make honey wheat bread but maple wheat makes sense in your neck of the woods. It sounds delicious and I will have to give it a try. Thank Ellen!
Honey is a great sweetener too. I buy it from our food coop but I always have so much maple that I choose this first.
Maple wheat sounds like such a delicious combo for bread. I love a bread with tons of seeds, but no one else in my family will eat it. They just don’t know what’s good!
My husband won’t eat the kind with lots of seeds 🙁 Sad because it’s so healthy.
Yum, this looks fantastic! I really need to get a bread maker. I would love to make our own bread
It’s one of those time saving devices I really enjoy.
I love bread!!! This look so good!
Thanks, Kristin. It really was!
I LOVE my bread machine. I actually bought it for my fiance for Christmas a couple of years ago. He asked for it! I’m the one that gets to bake the bread though! lol So far, I have only made traditional white bread, but I’d really like to experiment with some different kinds soon. This bread sounds great!
LOL well at least he gets to enjoy the bread!
That is just too easy. I want one of those really bad. I want my house to smell like fresh baked bread!
It’s a wonderful smell and a bread maker takes all the work out of the process!
I want a break maker! The possibilities are endless! This looks so good!
I agree! There are so many different recipes to try!
I would LOVE to make a loaf or three of this!! love maple flavoring
Maple is one of my favorite sweeteners!
Looks delicious, we have a bread maker, I have had it for 10 years and still have never used it! Your recipe makes me want to pull it out and make bread!
Wow 10 years! Definitely give the recipe a try!
I’ve never really made homemade bread like this, but it sure looks healthier ad super tasty!
My husband raved over. Definitely going to make this one again!
I like that this breadmaker comes with settings for GF bread, that would make my life so much easier.
It really is a huge time saver! GF bread is so expensive!
I really need to get a bread maker! This bread looks delicious, especially with the maple!
It’s so much easier for me with a bread maker!
This sounds so easy and yummy! I have a bread maker that I have never taken out of the box. :/
Now’s the time to take it out and make some bread!
Sounds great! Can you make gf breads in the machine?
Yes, it has a gluten free setting and several GF recipes in the booklet. I am going to try those soon.
That looks so wonderful, Ellen. It looks so easy to make with a bread machine. I might have to get one of those. I used to make sourdough rolls many years ago, but need to get a new starter.
I love sourdough! I need to try that soon!
Those machines are great. My dad uses one and I have to admit, he makes a pretty mean loaf of bread. I’m a bit of a bread junkie too…in my baby book it was written that my favorite whole food was toast. 40 years later, toast may not be my fav. but it’s still up there. I think it’s really cool idea to go with Whole Wheat and use the Maple for extra flavor. However, I didn’t see the ratio for Maple Syrup in the recipe…would it be the same amount as the white sugar of a normal bread recipe?
Use 2 tablespoons of real maple syrup in the recipe & it’s amazing toasted too!
Oh that maple wheat bread sounds absolutely amazing! I would love to mix up a batch this week. Yum!
Thanks, Amber! My husband really loved it.
