Many people follow a gluten-free diet for health reasons. But, not all gluten free snack foods are healthy. There are many gluten-free snacks that are loaded with fat, sugar and artificial ingredients. When you make a gluten-free recipe, you need to look at the ingredients just as much as you would on any other recipe you prepare for your family.

Gluten Free Snack Foods
There are lots of gluten free snack ideas that are good for you and require very little preparation. You probably enjoyed them long before you started thinking about going gluten-free. Think about foods like vegetable sticks, apples with peanut butter, air-popped popcorn, and hard-boiled eggs.
What common snacks are gluten free?
Besides the few I mentioned above, a few traditional snacks that you can try are hummus and carrot sticks, rice cakes, yogurt with fruit, and smoothies. This nut butter smoothie is one of my favorite snacks. It’s high in protein so it helps you feel full longer. Or, try these No Bake Peanut Butter Coconut Balls from Delightful Adventures.
What snacks can celiacs eat?
Celiac disease is more and more common every year in the United States. Unlike a food intolerance, someone with Celiac disease can become truly ill from eating even the tiniest amount of gluten. Consider snacks like ants on a log, air-popped popcorn, fresh fruit with nuts, etc. We pop our popcorn in red palm oil and it’s delicious.
Check out the health benefits of red palm oil. These raspberry fruit roll-ups from Beyond the Chicken Coop will be a hit with kids and adults alike.
Can a celiac eat cheese?
Cheese does not typically contain gluten. However, that will depend on the manufacturer and the type of cheese. Some cheese products may contain ingredients that are a source of gluten.
When in doubt, always contact the manufacturer. Firm natural cheeses such as cheddar are less likely to contain gluten than shredded cheese or cheese spread.
What foods should celiacs avoid?
Any food containing wheat is definitely on the short list of foods to avoid. Look for foods that naturally do not contain gluten like fruits, vegetables, meats, rice, and potatoes. Make sure that you look for the simplest form of that food. For example, a homemade baked potato that you prepare will be gluten-free.
A baked potato that is frozen with toppings you buy at the grocery store may not be. These Mexican Baked Potatoes make a filling snack that is gluten-free.
Are eggs gluten free?
Eggs are both gluten and dairy free and make a fantastic gluten free snack when they are hard boiled. Again, be sure that you are making these at home so you know what ingredients are being used.
Avoid things like frozen breakfast meals or scramble cups that can contain ingredients with gluten. I make hard-boiled eggs in my Mealthy pot and it takes only minutes.

Can celiacs eat chocolate?
Provided it is pure chocolate with no added crisps, cookies, or other additives, yes. Be sure to look at the ingredient list carefully. The chocolate itself contains no gluten. If you want a decadent treat, try these Chocolate Paleo Energy Balls from Joy Food Sunshine or make your own chocolate covered strawberries.
Gluten free snack ideas
There are a lot of gluten free snack ideas you can buy at the grocery store. Unlike years ago, there are entire sections of the grocery store devoted to gluten free products. Just a few of our favorites are gluten-free pretzel sticks and these soft baked cookies. My savory spiced pecans are delicious and easy to make.
If you want to try making your own gluten-free snacks, here are a few that look delicious.

Of course, it’s nice to be able to try new gluten free snack foods occasionally as well. One of the reasons so many people don’t is that they prefer not to purchase an entire box of something that they’ve never tried before. I hate throwing food away but not all gluten free snacks are as yummy as they think they are.
You can save 25% on a gluten free snack box and try a variety of different gluten free snack foods before you commit to buying the full-size product. Plus, for every box sent, a meal is donated to feed hungry children in America. To date, they’ve donated over ONE MILLION meals.
