Easy Aromatherapy Crafts
Up until a few years ago, when I needed something, I ran to the store for it. When I had a headache or muscle ache, my first thought was to take an over the counter medication. Sometimes this is necessary but I’ve started thinking about other alternatives first.
Essential oil crafts
Essential oils have many different healing properties. They are oils extracted from plants that in many cases our ancestors used successfully to cure problems they were having.
While we’re used to heading to the store to deal with our problems, there are many different essential oils and natural herbs and plants that will do the same thing.
These eight easy essential oil crafts are a great place to start if you’re curious about using essential oils for your health and beauty needs. Please make sure that you purchase essential oils and NOT fragrance oils. They are not the same thing. Fragrance oils have no healing properties.
I always try to find organic essential oils when possible so that they are as pure as possible.
Here are a few basic definitions to get you started:
- Essential Oil – a natural oil typically obtained by distillation and having the characteristic fragrance of the plant or another source from which it is extracted.
- Fragrance Oil – also known as aroma oils, aromatic oils, and flavor oils, are blended synthetic aroma compounds or natural essential oils that are diluted with a carrier like propylene glycol, vegetable oil or mineral oil.
- Aromatherapy -the use of aromatic plant extracts and essential oils in massage, baths or other uses to promote well being. Learn more about aromatherapy.
How do you make a room spray from essential oils?
I love room sprays but I don’t love the toxic chemicals in the ones they sell at the grocery store. You can make this lavender linen spray and use it as a room spray as well.
The scent of lavender is very relaxing and a wonderful way to unwind.
How do you make candles with essential oils?
I have several candle crafts that are made with essential oils that you can try. You can make these Ylang Ylang scented candles or these easy soy candles and add whatever essential oil blend you like the best.
What products can I make with essential oils?
You can really make almost any type of product that has a scent with essential oils rather than fragrance oils. Here are a few easy essential oil crafts to get you started:
Make a Stress Ball with Clay for Aromatherapy – Clay is very simple to make and it may be something that you’ve made for your child in the past.
The only difference between this clay and the clay that you make for your child is that this has no artificial food coloring. And, it has essential oils added to help you relax
Make your Own Oil Diffuser – You can make your own oil diffuser for just a fraction of what they cost in the store. I love oil diffusers because I love scents in my home. Unlike candles, I can leave the oil diffuser alone unattended. I don’t have to worry about fire or the black soot from the candles getting on my walls.
Easy DIY Sugar Scrub – This DIY sugar scrub with essential oils features avocado oil to help heal your winter dry skin quickly and effectively. As the furnace comes on more and more frequently, keeping my skin moisturized becomes more difficult. This is probably one of the easiest essential oil crafts I’ve tried.
Essential Oils DIYs
Peppermint Soap Recipe with Shea Butter – If you’re looking for a peppermint soap recipe that’s moisturizing and gentle on your skin, you’re going to love this!
Now that the furnace is running all of the time, I’ve noticed that my skin is so much dryer than it is in the summer.
Using a moisturizing homemade soap recipe is a great way to return moisture to dry skin.
Stress Relieving Bath Bombs – I don’t know about you, but a long hot soak in the tub helps me relax no matter what. And, yes, adding a bath bomb like these stress-relieving bath bombs certainly makes it even more relaxing.
Homemade Headache Salve – This homemade headache salve is one of my favorite ways to help eliminate my headaches naturally. So, I have been trying to find more natural remedies instead of turning to a store-bought medication every time I don’t feel well.
So, take a few minutes and try one of these easy essential oil crafts. Let me know how they helped you manage stress.
