Instant Pot Italian Beef Dinner
I am absolutely in love with my electric pressure cooker. So, meals that normally take 5 hours on high in the slow cooker can be on the table in an hour using this.
Even better, I can forget to defrost something for dinner and still have supper ready in an hour! How does it get better than that?
What cut of meat is Italian beef made from? This recipe is super easy to make and it’s fairly flexible. I used a Certified Angus Chuck Steak, to begin with.
It’s an affordable cut of meat that’s easy to cook. It comes out super tender in the pressure cooker.
If you have stew meat, you can use that too. Or, you can start with a pot roast. It’s amazing either way. Or, why not try this with a pork roast next time you have one?
Pork goes wonderfully with any type of Italian sauce. And, it’s very easy to make in the pressure cooker using the same settings as this meal.
What should I serve with this dinner?
So, technically, my Instant Pot Italian Beef Dinner is a meal in itself. It contains meat, vegetables, and starch. Now, you could always serve bread or homemade rolls with this if you like.
Or, try my Italian Rosemary Bread Recipe. Or, you can add a fresh garden salad if you’re trying not to go too carb-heavy.
This Instant Pot Italian roast was one of my husband’s favorite meals in the pressure cooker. He’s definitely a meat and potatoes kind of a guy.
If you’re looking for a Paleo recipe, simply leave out the potatoes or substitute turnip or parsnips instead. Finally, if you have leftover meat, I highly recommend you make a Pressure Cooker Italian Beef Sandwich.
Pressure Cooker Italian Beef Sandwich
Just heat the meat and shred it using meat claws and serve on a Kaiser roll. You can add extra spaghetti sauce if you like.
It’s one of our favorite ways to enjoy leftovers. To enjoy a “sandwich” without bread you can serve this on lettuce leaves or use a Paleo wrap. Or, you can always serve it over Jasmine rice for a brand new meal using leftovers.
I love meals that use up leftovers because it’s easy on my budget.
So, if you enjoy using this as much as I do, check out a few of the hacks in the video above. Who would have thought?

Tips for cleaning up
I love cooking with this small appliance and clean up couldn’t be easier. The inner cooking pot simply lifts out to be washed in warm soapy water.
Now, if you think you’ll have something that will be sticky or messy, they do offer a coated non-stick inner cooking pot you may want to try.
And, if you cook something with a very strong taste like garlic or curry, you might want to change the seal ring before you make something with a completely different taste like a dessert.
Because the ring is porous, it can carry over odors which might impact the next thing you make.
So, one thing that I find super handy is the steam release valve release accessory. It funnels the steam away from the under part of your cabinets.
If you’re like me, your small appliances sit directly under your cabinets. And, when the steam releases, it vents right straight up into the cabinet base.
I don’t want my cabinets damaged by the steam. This accessory fixes that problem.
Love your pressure cooker? Try my Instant Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage. Or, if you want something different for dinner, why not try my Italian Scallop Tortellini Bake.
It’s not a pressure cooker meal, but if you love Italian food I hope that you’ll give it a try. It’s one of our favorite pasta dishes and it’s so easy to make.

Hello, I’m new to the instant pot and have been struggling with it until I was directed to your tasty and easy recipes 🙂 I tried one and loved it. So I’m trying the Instant Pot Italian beef dinner. I have the ingredients to try this recipe but didn’t notice until now that it says to cook on the “meat/stew” setting for 45 min. I don’t have that button. I have roast, slow cook, bake, saute, pressure cook, which should I use?
Thanks for stopping by. Roast should work fine!
Are the potatoes and carrots overcooked with pressure for 45 minutes?
I didn’t find them to be overcooked. If you’re concerned, just make sure that the pieces are larger.
I’m trying this recipe tonight with substitutions. Cauliflower for carrots. Beef stock for water. Adding whole Bella mushrooms, or Portobello? Adding a small onion, cut in four pieces. Adding garlic cloves and an herb (rosemary, Italian parsley, tarragon, ?). Italian green beans might be a good substitute for carrots, too. Mangia!
Oregano, duh! Scrolled down from here. Was thinking of browning large, cubed meat as well. Read the comment below asking the same question. Think I will brown in 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 Tbsp salt, 1 tsp ground black pepper.
Hope you enjoy it!
Sounds amazing!
No seasoning? Y’all Damn Yankees don’t believe in em or what?? 😂😂 I’m just joking!! I got my moms side of the family from Michigan, and my Pops from Mississippi! I can’t get caught making jokes!! I know, some people don’t use seasonings, for different reasons, and some may not list them. Because it is common since that if you use them , toss them in. And if you don’t….. well then just don’t . ! I just had to make a funny. Because some times people from up north, their recipes will be like 3 ingredients. And a Southerner will post the same recipe, and there will be like 22 ingredients. 20 of them being seasoning or flavoring!!😂 which is how I love it! But everyone is different!! I just had to make someone grin. atleast once. .
I have never heard of Italian Pot roast! It sounds Yummy!! I’m gonna try mine in the pressure cooker!! Can’t wait!!
LOL You can certainly add seasoning if you want to! I’d toss in a bit of basil or oregano if I was going to add seasoning. Hope you enjoy the recipe.
This recipe looks great. I was wondering do you sear the roast or cube the meat before cooking? If you don’t cube it before cooking do you shred it or cube it after cooking? Can’t wait to try it
Hi Michael – No, I don’t cube it or roast it. And, I have never tried shredding it. But, if you try it let me know how it turns out!
Hi Ellen, Can I up the amount of carrots and potatos and decrease the amount of meat to save $? What would new cook times be if I were to do that? Thanks!
Hi Joy – You definitely can! You should not have to change the cooking time. Just use the “meat” function on your IP. Thanks for stopping by!
for half of the recipe do I do half on the time.
Yes, that should work. You may want to check it if the meat portion is a lot smaller.
Is it tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce? The ingredients says spaghetti sauce but the instructions state tomato sauce. Thank you
Hi Summer – You can use either one. They are interchangeable. Thanks for checking out my recipe!
A quick question – I am a total newbie to pressure cooking. The recipe says to add the water – after the potatoes and carrots. And then it says to mix the water with the spaghetti sauce. I am confused???? 1/4 cup on top of the potatoes & carrots and then another 1/4 cup mixed with the spaghetti sauce???
Hi Gennie – Sorry for the confusion! I have updated the recipe.
Fast, easy, healthy and delicious! Who could ask for anything more!
Thanks, Renee!

I don’t have an instant pot, but the more I see about them the more I think we need one! As a large family, anything to make meal prep easier is a must I think!
It definitely does!
