Since my daughter is gluten intolerant, I generally go with a gluten-free option whenever possible. With soup, it’s a fairly easy thing to do. You just substitute rice for whatever pasta option the recipe calls for.

I take a few shortcuts to save time by starting with chicken broth.

Yes, you should cook the chicken first. Or, you can use leftover chicken from a previous meal. It’s up to you. In a pinch, canned chicken would work as well. I make my homemade chicken soup with chicken breast.

Being prepared is important. There’s nothing worse than realizing you’re starting to feel rotten but have nothing on hand to take to treat your symptoms.

I don’t want to have to drive to the store when I’m sick to get cough medicine and cough drops. I always keep the basics on hand like Signature Care™ Cold & Flu Liquid Daytime and Nighttime, Signature Care Cough Drops Honey Lemon, and Signature Care Non-Drowsy Daytime Cold & Flu Relief.

Signature Care products provide the same quality and relief that national name brands do, but at a better value. Signature Care products contain the same active ingredients & are subject to the same manufacturing standards mandated by the FDA as national brands.

Plus, they come with a money-back guarantee. I love that this is an area I can save money in without sacrificing quality.

  1. I don't often get sick but when I do it feels like a truck hit me and I can barely stand so shortcuts are a good thing! I used to avoid the purchased stock because I'm very sodium sensitive, but when sick, the salt helps especially if I'm trying to replace lost fluids. Mom always made us Campbell's canned chicken noodle soup so this is better with more protein and veggies.

  3. Oh this looks really good! I also have to eat gluten free, and would love to make more soups. What a great idea to use rice for pasta! I love rice soups, and will have to try this one for me!

  4. I make a simple chicken soup like this often, and it is just the thing when one of us is under the weather. If you don't mind garlic, I'd suggest adding a minced clove as well, it has a lot of healing properties
