How to Make Hot Orange Juice

I hate getting sick. I’m generally a very healthy person and that’s a good thing since I’m generally the one who has to take care of everyone else.

Sometimes during the winter, I just start to get that rundown feeling. You know what I mean. I’m a little more tired and sort of achy.

I start noticing a little tickle in the back of my throat and my nose starts getting stuffy. You have got to try my hot orange spice beverage. It’s definitely my go-to cold remedy drink.

Is hot orange juice good for a sore throat?

If you have a sore throat, it is a better idea to drink a soothing hot tea than something with Vitamin C.

The acidity of orange juice can irritate a sore throat. But, if you are at the very beginning of a cold, this is the drink you need to take.

If you’re thinking about using hot orange juice for colds, it’s important you take it at the very beginning of your cold when you first notice it. I always take elderberry syrup at the same time for an extra boost.

Are hot drinks good for a cold?

Hot drinks can loosen the secretions in your chest and sinuses which can make it easier to cough or blow your nose. The first thing I do when I notice I’m not feeling well is to try to hold it off as long as possible with this cold remedy rink.

I’ve done a flu tea before but this cold remedy drink is a little bit different. It doesn’t use herbs. Instead, it uses orange juice for a blast of Vitamin C and ground ginger for a warming feeling.

Raw honey has antibacterial properties so I add that in as well. Basically, it’s a blast of all the good things nature offers with the hope that I won’t really get sick.

Does drinking orange juice help when you are sick?

There are many different foods, herbs, and spices that can impact how we feel. They often have medicinal uses and while they may not cure you, they can certainly help you feel better.

I find myself combining modern medicine with herbal or homeopathic remedies fairly often.

This Hot Orange Spice Beverage has all the benefits of orange, ginger, cinnamon, and honey and still manages to taste delicious while warming you from the inside out.

If you really wanted to open your sinuses, you could add a dash of Tabasco sauce to it. I’m not a big fan of super spicy foods so I leave that out of my hot orange juice.

Can you make this in the microwave?

Yes, you can make this cold remedy drink in the microwave instead of in a pan on the stove if you want to. You’ll have to experiment with the correct amount of time since I’ve never tried it that way.

Basically, you want it hot enough to loosen your cough but not so hot you burn yourself. It will probably be about the same time you would use to heat up a cold cup of coffee.

Since it’s important that you drink this hot, I would keep it in a to-go cup with double-walled sides. I often use a thermos if I am heading to work.

Or, my Bodum cup keeps beverages nice and hot. If you’re thinking about drinking hot orange juice for colds, you need to keep this hot while you drink it.
