These tips for exfoliating aging skin can help your skin look younger and more vibrant. There are a lot of things about aging that I’d like to change. One of them is the change in the appearance of my skin. As you age, your skin slows its production of collagen and slows the rate of cell renewal. This can result in wrinkles, age spots, and dullness. These things all play a part in how your skin looks and feels.

Tips for Exfoliating Aging Skin with AHAs
Exfoliation is one of the ways to encourage new skin growth even in aging skin. New skin growth will make your skin look more vibrant and help to bring back that healthy glow.
AHAs or Alpha Hydroxy Acids are natural exfoliants that have been clinically proven to help prevent and reverse the signs of sun-damaged or aging skin. AHAs gently release dead skin cells to reveal fresh, healthy, younger-looking skin. A
lpha Hydroxy Acids can be used to treat acne, hyperpigmention, and to improve the appearance of aging skin.
AHAs can come from a variety of different sources including sugar cane, citrus fruits, apples, milk, grapes, and almonds. Our ancestors have been using these products on their skin for many years in face masks and in bathing so they could experience and improvement in their skin tone and appearance.
How AHAs Work
AHAs help to improve the appearance of your skin in two different ways. AHAs help to moisturize the outer layer of your skin which results in skin that is softer, smoother and more flexible.
They also work to dissolve or loosen the dead skin cells from your skin’s surface. This stimulates and speeds up the normal process of cell regeneration which lets fresh skin cells emerge.
With regular use, the amounts of collagen and skin thickness have also been seen.
Choosing the Right AHA
Different AHAs are best for different things. Choosing the right AHA is very important and will depend on what your needs are. Some AHAs are best for moisturizing, others work better to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and others are better for acne breakouts.
Percent of AHA
As with any product, the percent of active ingredient will have a lot to do with its effectiveness. To be an effective exfoliant, the percentage of AHA in a product should be 8% and above. Products that have 15% and above should only be administered by a licensed aesthetician, doctor or nurse.
If you have never used AHAs before or have sensitive skin, you should start with products with a lower percentage of AHA.
Stick with One Brand
Before you apply anything to your skin, you should know what the effects may be and how it will react with anything else you apply to your skin. Sometimes, it’s just easier and safer to use all products within one brand because they have probably been formulated to work best together as a routine.
When starting with a new line of skincare, you should always test it on a small patch of skin just below the jaw line. It’s normal to feel a slight tingling when using an AHA product but if you feel anything excessive you should stop immediately. Follow these tips for exfoliating aging skin with care.
During the first few weeks, you may notice that your skin is drier, and you may experience more flaking than normal. This is because your skin is exfoliating. Use a very good moisturizer during the first stages and wait a few days for it to improve. Always use an SPF 15 or higher during sun exposure to protect your skin from the sun.
I’ve been using the Alpha Skin Care AHA Treatments for several weeks now including their Nourishing Eye Cream, Enhanced Wrinkle Repair Cream, Enhanced Facial Moisturizer (with SPF 15), Essential Renewal Lotion, Refreshing Face Wash, and Essential Facial Moisturizer.
Since I have sensitive skin, I started with the 10% concentration and it’s working quite well even with my sensitive skin. I love that these products are both paraben and fragrance-free. Using a line of products together makes me feel much more confident that I’ll see great results from the products.
I’ve already started noticing that my skin looks brighter than it did before I started, and I’m looking forward to continuing to use Alpha Skin Care.
