I love holiday decorating, but I don’t necessarily love buying more and more decorations for every holiday.

At some point, you run out of places to put everything.

That’s one reason I was intrigued by these Linkind Smart Light Sticks. They’re color-changing smart bulbs that fit into a standard light socket, but they’re capable of doing much more than simply turning red or green.

A Few Things to Know Before You Buy

There are a few specifications worth knowing before replacing an existing bulb.

These are E26-base T19 bulbs, measuring approximately 57 × 131 mm, so they’re designed for standard light sockets and many existing fixtures.

Each bulb uses 8 watts and produces up to 850 lumens, which the manufacturer compares to a traditional 60-watt bulb.

The estimated energy cost is listed at about $0.96 per year.

They connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so they aren’t compatible with 5GHz-only Wi-Fi networks.

They’re compatible with smart-home platforms including Alexa, Apple Home and Google Home through Matter.

One important note: these bulbs should not be used with traditional dimmer switches, as that can cause flickering or buzzing.

They’re also not compatible with Tuya or Smart Life, and they don’t support Thread.

So if you’re replacing bulbs in an existing fixture, it’s worth checking the socket, Wi-Fi setup and switch before ordering.

I Like the Idea of Decorating With Light Instead of More Stuff

I’m always interested in things that can do more than one job.

That’s particularly true when it comes to seasonal decorating.

A box of Halloween decorations has one purpose. A box of Christmas decorations has another. Eventually, all those boxes need somewhere to live.
