As someone who tries to exercise and work out regularly but doesn’t always succeed, I have been curious about protein shake benefits for someone who isn’t a fitness fanatic.

While I do work out regularly, I’m not into weight lifting and I don’t run marathons. I’m just a busy woman who wants to try to stay in shape.
I was very surprised to learn some of the benefits for women in general especially as we age.
What does a protein shake do for you?
Drinking a protein shake has a number of different benefits. Most of all, it’s an easy way to get extra protein into your diet.
If you’re an athlete, it helps you build muscle and recover after a workout. But, it can be helpful even for those that aren’t athletes.
Protein shakes for weight loss
If you’re trying to lose weight, a protein shake can give you a good source of protein that is lower in fat than some others. And, protein tends to boost your metabolism which may help with weight loss.
If you’re trying to drop a few pounds you can drink a protein shake as a meal replacement in the morning instead of breakfast. And, you can also drink them as snacks depending on the calories you’re eating and how much weight you need to lose.
Do protein shakes make you gain weight?
Like anything else, it depends on which type you drink, how often you drink, and other lifestyle choices you make. If you use a protein shake as a meal replacement and watch what else you eat during the day, one of the protein shake benefits you see should be weight loss.
If you aren’t careful about what you eat, don’t exercise, and choose a higher calorie shake, you may gain weight.
Benefits of protein shakes for females
One of the protein shake benefits that is most attractive to me is that it helps you build lean muscle mass. As women age, they are more susceptible to conditions like osteoporosis and sarcopenia.
To build more lean muscle mass, you need more amino acid proteins like the kind found in some protein shakes. It isn’t easy to get this type of protein in the foods we eat.
Can protein shakes help with menopause symptoms?
If you’re experiencing menopause symptoms and hoping that one of the protein shake benefits is an improvement, you may be right. The “menopause diet” is a diet that is high in protein and includes whole grains.
Protein sources that are high in phytoestrogens may help with menopause symptom relief.
What type of shake should I use?
The type of shake you drink really depends on which protein shake benefits you’re hoping to get. There are many benefits of whey protein that include promoting muscle growth as well as the possibility of reducing inflammation.
If you’re in menopause and are hoping to see a few protein shake benefits that are geared toward women during menopause, try a soy protein shake. Soy protein powder is also a good choice for those that are vegetarian or vegan and need an added boost of protein each day.
