There are many different reasons why people use intermittent fasting. That reason may be for weight loss, to sleep better at night, or to have more energy.
For women over 50, one of the best reasons to consider intermittent fasting is for more energy. With menopause, many women experience a slight weight gain and poorer quality sleep.
Both of these can cause you to feel tired and sluggish. But, by changing when and what you’re eating, you can retrain your body so that you feel better.
If you are fasting for weight loss, intermittent fasting can allow you to eat the foods you want when you most crave them – at night. This means that you don’t feel deprived while everyone else is snacking while watching their favorite shows on television.

How many hours should a woman do intermittent fasting?
The most common model used for intermittent fasting is the 16/8 model. That means that you will go 16 hours without eating and 8 hours eating.
Typically, the 16 hours are done overnight when you are asleep which makes it much easier.

Staying motivated with any lifestyle change is a challenge. But, one of the easiest ways to stick with it is to set up an intermittent fasting schedule. I find that planning meals and keeping a schedule is one of the best ways to stay on track.
One of the easiest ways for me to do this is to eat between noon and 8 PM. This allows me to have lunch and dinner and an evening snack. And, with a big glass of water with lemon in it for breakfast, I don’t feel hungry until lunchtime.
Don’t skip the water with lemon. It really does help.

There’s been a study which proves you lose more weight by not eating dinner. The same exact food was given to 2 groups, one who skipped breakfast and one group skipped dinner. That’s good news for people like me, who are famished in the morning. For breakfast I often eat what I made my family for dinner the night before! I actually feel soooo full at dinnertime I can’t fathom eating. I used to skip dinner probably at least once a week before starting this way of eating anyway. Another bonus is I’m not likely to have alcohol or sweets by skipping dinnertime eating.
