Hectic Schedules: How to Keep a Clear Head

Last Updated on September 4, 2020 by Ellen Christian

Wondering how to keep a clear head when your schedule is hectic? Being sick or overworked is never easy.  I don’t like feeling run down, the aches and pains, the stuffy head or the sneezing.  I don’t have time to spend in bed when I don’t feel well.  There are too many things that I still need to take care of no matter what.  The kids have to get back and forth to school.  I still have to work. Laundry, dishes, and meals still need to be taken care of.   I have to clear my mind no matter how awful I feel.   This post contains affiliate links, and I will receive compensation if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

If you’re wondering how to clear your mind and focus when you don’t feel well, here are a few suggestions. You may need to try a few different ones before you find the perfect combination for your lifestyle.

Get some sleep

Get as much sleep as you can. If you’re like me, you don’t usually have time to nap during the day.  Getting to sleep even half an hour earlier at night can help you feel better the next morning. Lavender essential oil can be very relaxing.

Take a hot shower

Take a hot, steamy shower to clear your head and your mind. Add a few drops of eucalyptus or peppermint oil to the shower water to help clear your head.

Do the basics

Do what’s necessary.  Yes, you probably still need to do dinner and wash the dishes each day. Ask yourself, if mopping the floor or dusting can be put off for a few days until you feel better.

Ask for help

Don’t be afraid to ask the kids or husband for help.  They may not regularly pitch in but they may be willing to help out a bit when you’re not feeling well.

Make a list

Make a list of what must be done that day and work through your list slowly but steadily to make sure that you don’t miss anything. When I don’t feel well, I tend to be more forgetful than normal.

Stay hydrated

Drink plenty of liquids to keep hydrated and clear your system including water, hot tea, and chicken noodle soup. I find that keeping a water bottle on my desk helps quite a bit. I always use one that is BPA free and has measurements so I can keep track. This is my favorite because it also has a filter.

Rest often

Work in short burst of time. You don’t need to push for two hours straight.  Try working for fifteen minutes and then resting for fifteen minutes. Slow down, read a good book, and have a cup of herbal tea or hot chocolate.

If you really feel that you need to, don’t be afraid to take medication to help with some of the symptoms you’re feeling. There’s no sense in feeling any more horrible than you need to.  When I start to feel better, I find that it’s easier for me to focus on the things that I need to do and make it through the day.
