Healthy Dark Chocolate Bark Recipe
Most of the chocolate bark recipes I’ve seen before use milk or white chocolate and a variety of candy pieces or ice cream toppings. Since those tend to be fairly high in sugar and artificial food coloring, I don’t make it a lot. With these tweaks, I’m planning on making a few batches this year.
Dark chocolate bark makes a great holiday gift. It’s easy to make and looks festive in a gift box or on a Christmas plate for holiday gift-giving. We always give a small gift to the mailman, UPS, and FedEx delivery people since they visit is so often and this is an affordable gift idea.
What should I add to my bark recipe?
Chocolate bark is easy to customize. You can add all sorts of extras to it depending on your taste preferences or food allergies. I prefer to avoid artificial food dyes. Luckily there are a lot of food-based dyes that work quite well if you decide to go with white chocolate instead of dark. You can dehydrate your own strawberries and add those.
Just keep in mind that the sugar content of white chocolate is higher than that of dark chocolate. If you do add candy to it, be sure you look at the ingredients and keep it to a minimum.
In this recipe, I used dehydrated strawberries, banana chips, and yogurt covered raisins in place of the traditional candy, cookie crumbles, and nuts. You can use dried fruits, walnuts or anything else you’d like to top your bark.
Consider the overall color scheme of the bark when making your choices. I did drizzle a tiny bit of melted white chocolate on top to make it pretty. If you stick with unsweetened toppings, this is a great Paleo chocolate bark gift!
Pro Tip:
This is such a delicious holiday treat to make and your friends and family will never know how simple it is to make. PRO TIP: If you find your dark chocolate gets a bit too thick, you can thin it a bit with the tiniest amount of coconut oil. Don’t add too much! Otherwise, this healthy dark chocolate ark recipe won’t set properly.
This really just does take a few minutes to make. I snapped these photos on my blog trip to show you how easy it was. I hope you enjoy this healthy dark chocolate bark recipe!
How long does homemade chocolate bark last?
We usually eat it in just a few days. But, this homemade healthy dark chocolate bark recipe will stay good for 4 days to 2 weeks in your refrigerator. It all depends on how tightly you keep the container sealed. You don’t want it to absorb other flavors in the refrigerator.
