Dry Skin Care Routine for Aging Skin Post Menopause

Last Updated on January 3, 2020 by Ellen Christian

Are you looking for a dry skin care routine? For most of my life, my skin was oily. But, as soon as I hit menopause my skin and hair both became dryer. The products and routines I was used to following no longer worked for me. And, my skin actually started to look less healthy after the age of 45 than it did when I was younger. I realized that as my hormones changed, my skincare routine needed to change as well.

Dry Skin Care Routine

As we age, our bodies stop producing collagen which is what helps our skin look elastic, youthful and healthy. That, combined with dryer skin, can cause sagging, fine lines, and wrinkles. Skin changes during menopause are completely natural but that doesn’t mean they aren’t annoying. By returning moisture to our skin, we can slow the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles which is why ingredients like shea butter and hemp seed oil are important parts of a dry skin care routine.

Skin care routine steps

There should be several steps to any good skin care routine. The products you use will change slightly depending on your skin type, but the routine should be similar. With dry, aging skin, my focus is on returning moisture to my skin. Your routine should include cleansing and moisturizing at the very least. It’s important that you don’t limit your skin care routine to only your face and neck. Your arms, legs, hands, and feet all need to be cared for.

  1. Cleanse your skin using a bar soap that contains moisturizing ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and hemp seed oil. Fatty acids are very beneficial for aging skin.
  2. Don’t forget to choose a body wash for the rest of your skin that contains the same moisturizing ingredients.
  3. Return moisture to your face with a facial moisturizer. Use a body lotion to keep your skin soft and supple focusing on dry areas like elbows and knees.

Daily skin care routine at home

You don’t need to head to the spa to pamper your skin when you use spa-quality bath and beauty products. Developing a daily skin care routine at home is all you need to do provided you follow it regularly. Your dry skin care routine should feature products that gently cleanse your skin and return healthy moisture. If you consistently follow these steps, you’ll be able to combat some of the loss of moisture that comes with aging.

Many women first feel the effects of drying skin on their cheeks while their T zone remains normal. If this is the case for you, you can choose to moisturize more deeply on your cheeks than your T-zone. If your T-zone is oily, you can use a toner there while avoiding your cheeks. You may also want to use an exfoliating soap on your T-zone to encourage skin renewal.

My dry skin care routine

I’ve been using products from Nubian Heritage for my dry skin care routine. They have several different product lines depending on your skin care needs. For me, the Indian Hemp & Haitian Vetiver products work wonderfully to return moisture to my skin. They contain ingredients like hemp seed oil and vetiver to gently cleanse rough, dry and dull-looking skin. Plus, they have shea butter and neem oil which are so wonderful at keeping my skin soft.

  • Cleanse your face with Nubian Heritage Indian Hemp & Haitian Vetiver Bar Soap
  • Wash your body with Nubian Heritage Indian Hemp & Haitian Vetiver Body Wash
  • Return moisture to your skin with Nubian Heritage Indian Hemp & Haitian Vetiver Body Lotion.

In case you’re wondering, vetiver is a fragrance that is made from an Indian grass. It has anti-inflammatory properties (and it’s an aphrodisiac too).

Underarm care

If you’ve hit menopause, you may have noticed that odor and wetness are more of an issue that they have been in the past. Aren’t those hot flashes lovely?  I need a 24-hour deodorant but some of the ingredients in traditional deodorants are concerning. Nubian Heritage has a 24-hour deodorant that does not contain aluminum. Plus, it has neem oil just like their skin care products to help moisturize your delicate underarms.

I love the way the products from Nubian Heritage work together to create a dry skincare routine that really works for me. Plus, their products use fair trade ingredients that have been inspired by global ancient healing philosophies so I trust the quality for myself and my family.

You can find Nubian Heritage products at Whole Foods Market and Sprout Family Market.

  1. Unfortunately I didn’t care for my skin like I should have when I was young. I try to do the best I can now. I do have dry skin in spots thank you for this routine.

  4. These products sound great to me, after checking out their site I would have to go with the OLIVE OIL & GREEN TEA COLLECTION for ageing skin. I have been doing a lot of swimming at my son’s house on the weekends and that chlorine in the pool is really ruff on your skin. Right now I have a huge bottle of Cocoa Butter that absorbs quickly in to my old skin quite well.

  5. I haven’t heard of this brand but I definitely want to try their products. I have dry skin and the products I use doesn’t seem to help at all. I’m always looking to try new things if it helps.

  6. I’ve been interested in anti aging and beauty products all my life since my teens but not that I have turned 50 that interest has grown immensely, haha!
I think it is fun to try all different kinds of products and I especially like to try ones that I have never heard of before, like these that you reviewed for us. I especially like the sounds of the Coconut & Papaya one!
