Diet vs Health Eating

I’ve lost over 15 pounds over the past few months by making some lifestyle changes including eating healthy. When people see me, they ask me what type of diet I’m on. And, they are surprised to hear that while my focus is healthy eating, I am not following a diet plan.

What is a healthy diet?

Health experts have provided their own definitions of what makes a healthy diet. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s dietary guidelines for healthy eating, for example, suggests that about 30% of your daily calories should come from fat, 10% from saturated fat and the remaining calories should be divvied up between protein and carbohydrates.

It also lists seven specific recommendations, including eating more fruits and vegetables like leafy greens, choosing whole grains over refined grains, and eating lean meats / lean protein and low-fat dairy products.

My focus is on eating healthy foods including healthy fats and avoiding processed foods as much as possible. This means I have been limiting carbs with the help of my Lumen. Learn more about burning fat vs carbs.

What is a diet?

Overall the word diet simply means what you eat. But, in today’s culture, it tends to refer to following a specific eating plan to reduce calorie intake connected with losing weight.

I’ve tried many in the past ranging from Paleo to Weight Watchers. And, while some worked better than others I found it hard to stick with them.

I was tired of missing favorite foods and having to eat foods I didn’t really like. Healthy eating means minimizing processed foods and eating more food groups that are good for you.

Tips for eating healthy meals

One of my biggest struggles was to get into a healthy eating pattern. My eating habits were definitely not the best. I relied on packaged foods that were high in carbs and sugar because I never had enough time to make healthy choices.

Following a healthier diet doesn’t have to take a lot of time. I’ve been enjoying Splendid Spoon plant based foods to help me make healthier food choices.

Their soups and smoothies allow me to eat smaller meals without relying on ultra processed food. Even on the busiest nights, I have nutritious foods in the freezer that take only minutes to prepare.

Plant based foods provide the essential nutrients without relying on meat, dairy, or gluten. With 20 net carbs per serving and about 300 calories, these freshly prepared meals have been providing me with energy throughout my day.

Splendid Spoon smoothies are my new go-to breakfast. I used to have full fat yogurt but I never felt like this kept me full until lunch time. So snack foods were a constant temptation.

They offer a variety of plant based smoothies that are a delicious part of a healthy diet. There are traditional and protein packed smoothies depending on your preferences. I love how easy it is to customize their plan based on what you want to eat. I found lots of options that are low carb.

The Carrot Ginger Smoothies are definitely my favorites. Even when I am pressed for time in the morning, I have a healthy choice ready to go. No more energy drinks that spike your blood sugar. Check out the selection here.

Tips for losing weight

  • Eat slowly and enjoy your food.
  • Minimize ultra processed foods and junk foods
  • Protein foods help you feel full longer
  • Limit saturated fats and avoid trans fats found in packaged food.
  • Avoid empty calories like sodas and sugary drinks.
  • Don’t focus on weight loss. Focus on enjoying a balanced diet.

Eating a balanced diet has helped me drop 15 pounds and be at a healthy weight for my age. It’s done wonders for my physical and mental health. Now my focus is on maintaining weight loss rather than losing weight.

I do this by maintaining a healthy relationship with food. This is just part of my healthy living plan. I also try to move more and am focusing on my overall well being.

I’ve just ordered this reusable water bottle to keep on my desk at work. I know that eating food like whole grains, sweet potatoes, and other nutrient dense foods is important if you want a healthy body weight.

What are calcium rich foods?

These foods are an important part of a healthy diet. We know that diary products are high in calcium. But, there are plant based options too like kale, broccoli, and oranges.

Incorporating more foods with calcium into your diet is important for everyone of all ages. Whether you’re in your 20s and just starting to consider your health options or 60 and want to maintain healthy body weight and lifestyle, these types of foods are an important part of every meal.

Splendid Spoon review

I’ve always been interested in plant based foods because I know how they can benefit my health. With that said, I wasn’t sure what to expect about their meals but Splendid Spoon did not disappoint.
