What is a diet vs healthy eating? While healthy eating can be part of your plan to lose weight, it’s not the same as a weight loss diet.

Diet vs Health Eating
I’ve lost over 15 pounds over the past few months by making some lifestyle changes including eating healthy. When people see me, they ask me what type of diet I’m on. And, they are surprised to hear that while my focus is healthy eating, I am not following a diet plan.
What is a healthy diet?
Health experts have provided their own definitions of what makes a healthy diet. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s dietary guidelines for healthy eating, for example, suggests that about 30% of your daily calories should come from fat, 10% from saturated fat and the remaining calories should be divvied up between protein and carbohydrates.
It also lists seven specific recommendations, including eating more fruits and vegetables like leafy greens, choosing whole grains over refined grains, and eating lean meats / lean protein and low-fat dairy products.

What is a diet?
Overall the word diet simply means what you eat. But, in today’s culture, it tends to refer to following a specific eating plan to reduce calorie intake connected with losing weight.
I’ve tried many in the past ranging from Paleo to Weight Watchers. And, while some worked better than others I found it hard to stick with them.
I was tired of missing favorite foods and having to eat foods I didn’t really like. Healthy eating means minimizing processed foods and eating more food groups that are good for you.
Tips for eating healthy meals
One of my biggest struggles was to get into a healthy eating pattern. My eating habits were definitely not the best. I relied on packaged foods that were high in carbs and sugar because I never had enough time to make healthy choices.

Eating a balanced diet has helped me drop 15 pounds and be at a healthy weight for my age. It’s done wonders for my physical and mental health. Now my focus is on maintaining weight loss rather than losing weight.
I do this by maintaining a healthy relationship with food. This is just part of my healthy living plan. I also try to move more and am focusing on my overall well being.
