I’ve been working on putting together a classic style wardrobe for a few years. When I add new items to my wardrobe, I look for classic clothing styles that I can wear for several years to come. I don’t want to have to replace my wardrobe every year. So, I look for things that won’t go out of style. Then, I can accent my wardrobe with a few smaller trendy pieces when I like the new trends.
What is a classic style for fashion?
Classic style often refers to pieces with simple cuts and traditional styles. People who look for classic clothing styles often prefer to skip the trends that are here today and gone tomorrow. Look for wardrobe essentials that will always be in style.
What’s in a classic style wardrobe?
What you have in your classic style wardrobe will really depend on the type of classic clothing styles you wear. Someone who works outside of the home in an office will have different style needs than someone who works at home or has small children. For me, I need a few extra dressy casual pieces for when we entertain and attend events during the holidays. It worked perfectly today when I visited our local Fine Arts Center to see a display.
Typically, it will include basic cardigans, a dress shirt or v-neck shirt, a long coat, knee-high boots in a classic color, dark wash jeans, ballet flats, a light-weight scarf, khaki and black trousers, and a pair of black pumps. In the summer, this would include shorts, short sleeve shirts, a classic swimsuit, and sandals. If you’re athletic or are on your feet a lot, you’ll want to include a comfortable pair of athletic or walking shoes.
You can change this up based on your own individual needs and style preferences.
Which colors are best?
Typically, foundation pieces are neutrals like black, navy, khaki, and white. But classic clothing styles can also include timeless colors like red and hunter green. Of course, you should choose pieces that flatter your complexion. For me, that means brighter pinks and purples rather than darker reds and rust.
