Then, you can’t get an appointment that’s convenient for your schedule. But, you need to speak to someone now. Either you end up taking time off from work that you really can’t afford to take off. Or you skip going to the doctor and hope your symptoms go away soon. Of course, they don’t. Scroll down for a special savings code just for my readers.

Online Doctor Consultation

Over the past few weeks, my shoulder and elbow have been bothering me. I have nerve damage in my shoulder from a repetitive motion injury I got from a job I had in my twenties so my shoulder has always bothered me. But, lately, it’s been bothering more and that pain has started radiating down into my elbow and at times my wrist. My physician’s office has really rotten hours that just are not convenient for when I’m available. So, I’ve been putting off visiting them.

This past weekend, it got to the point that my elbow hurt all the time and it got even worse when I picked up a teapot full of water or tried to grab a mixing bowl off the top shelf. I knew it was time to deal with it but my doctor’s office was closed. I decided to try Amwell and have an online doctor consultation instead. Amwell is the nation’s largest telehealth company, connecting users with board-certified, licensed doctors for immediate and live, online visits—day or night, on either mobile or desktop.

I’d never had an online doctor consultation before so I had no idea what to expect. With Amwell, I can have a consultation via my computer or an app on my iPhone. Since it was the weekend, it was much more convenient to have my visit using the app. All I had to do was to download the app, fill out my personal information like my name, address, age, medications and any existing health conditions. Then, I selected my pharmacy in case a prescription was needed. I was thrilled to learn that you can get prescriptions written online with Amwell as long as you have a video call.

It only took a few minutes to be connected with the doctor on call who was a family practitioner. She was very easy to talk to and it was a lot like a regular doctor’s appointment but without the super long wait in the waiting room. She asked me questions about what hurt, other symptoms I was experiencing, any history I had of injuries in that area, etc. Plus, she listened to my questions and really seemed to care about my answers. Plus, I wasn’t at all rushed through the appointment, unlike some doctor’s appointments I’ve been to.

I love that the doctor I visited with Amwell provided a variety of suggestions for the pain I was experiencing including an elbow compression sleeve, a medicated rub, and ibuprofen for the swelling. She also gave me ideas about how I could change the way I was working to possibly lessen the pain including a standing desk and a keyboard with wrist support. I took her advice and ordered what I needed to online so that I can deal with the pain I’m experiencing. In the meantime, I will be using ice, heat and my sore muscle soak.

You can speak to Amwell doctors 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They are dedicated to keeping you healthy — all from the comfort of your home. I even showed my husband how easy it was to use the app for a visit. He hates having to wait in the waiting room to be seen at our regular doctor.  If you’re considering using a virtual doctor app, I hope you’ll consider Amwell. 1. I am really weary of anything online any more. I really think that I would have to get a free visit to try it. I dont mean anything bad toward anyone or anything. I guess it may be where I am a single parent to I have to be really cautious?
    • I can totally understand where you're coming from. This was my first online doctor's appointment. It really did work just like a visit at my doctor's office and the doctor was so nice and helpful. You can bill through your insurance company or pay yourself if you prefer. Definitely check out the reviews. And if you do make an appointment, use my discount code!

I think online doctors could be the next big thing!

If only my insurance covered this the way they do office visits and I think they SHOULD, then I would use this often because the last thing most of us feel like doing when we feel and look awful is to get ready to somewhere. UGH. I am hoping insurance companies step up and get with the program. This is a great service. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't know this exists. So useful since I have a toddler and worry about getting sick anytime we go to the doctors.
