Last Updated on June 6, 2026 by Ellen Christian

We love to cook with fresh blueberries.  I am always looking for new fresh blueberry recipes for variety. As much as I enjoy making blueberry pie and blueberry cobbler, sometimes we enjoy trying new recipes as well.  One of the ways I want to eat healthier this year is by using more fresh foods and less packaged and prepared foods when I plan and prepare our meals.

Now, with the holidays comes entertaining and special holiday meals.  And, this is the perfect time to impress your guests with fresh blueberry recipes that are different from what you usually prepare.  But, since many people serve pork or ham for the holidays, this Fresh Chilean Blueberry and Cranberry Relish is the perfect side dish. The sweet and tart flavors are delicious together. And, it also works wonderfully as an accompaniment to meat on the grill.

Every year when the kids were younger, we would head to a pick your own place to pick fresh blueberries. Living in rural Vermont, I love being able to pick fresh fruit during the spring and summer. We’ve tried growing blueberries on our property but we never had very good luck with it. So, when we want to try a few fresh blueberry recipes, we pick them from local farms or find them growing wild in the woods.

What kind of berries do I need?

You can use wild blueberries in these recipes just as well as cultivated blueberries. But, keep in mind that wild blueberries are much smaller. So, you will need quite a few more to make these recipes.

What can I do with fresh-picked blueberries?

Blueberries are a great choice for summer snacking because they are high in soluble and insoluble fiber and in Vitamin C. They are also loaded with antioxidants which will help combat the aging process.  Plus, they are pretty darn delicious!

So, the best thing to do with fresh-picked blueberries is to simply eat them as is. You can add them to yogurt, cereal or toss a few on your ice cream. If you have too many to eat them all at once, you can try them in a few of these easy blueberry recipes. Of course, if you don’t have fresh-picked blueberries, these fresh blueberry recipes work just as well as frozen blueberry recipes.

How can I make blueberries taste better?

Sometimes blueberries can be a bit on the tart side. If yours are sour, you can add a teaspoon of sugar to them. If you are using them in one of these fresh blueberry recipes, it shouldn’t be an issue. But, that can help if you want to eat them alone.

You could always add them to a banana smoothie with ice.
