Why is Halloween all about candy? I’ve been looking for a few DIY non candy Halloween treats. I love fall and Halloween. I enjoy watching the leaves change colors on the trees and I love the way the local farms decorate with hay bales, scarecrows, and piles of pumpkins. The air gets a little bit crisper and you can smell the change of the seasons.

Fun Non Candy Halloween Treats to Make
As much as I enjoy Halloween, I am really more into the pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns than I am the witches and vampires. I like cute Halloween decorations and avoid the really scary ones. These DIY non candy Halloween treats are perfect for younger kids.
Of course, if you ask the kids, they’ll tell you that their favorite part of Halloween is the candy. They bring home so much of it that I have been trying to think of some fun non candy Halloween treats. They only need so much candy and I know that I certainly don’t want it in the house tempting me.
I found this really cute Punkin’ Treat Pouch craft in Felt-o-ween: 40 scary-cute projects to celebrate Halloween. There are lots of cute Halloween projects you can make from felt in this book.
DIY Halloween treats
Wondering what to put in Halloween treat bags? These Punkin’ Treat Pouches are very easy to make and require only a few simple craft supplies. Scroll down for a list of a few more non candy Halloween treats you can make.
Materials:
- Sheets of orange, black and green felt. However many you need to satisfy the number of trick or treaters you get at your house.
- Yellow and black embroidery floss
- Scissors
- Fun things to stuff into the pouches – stickers, Boogie Wipes, mini pens, spider rings, lip balm, etc. If you want to add a small piece of candy, you can certainly do that too. These eyeball gumballs are cute.
Directions for these non candy Halloween treats:
- Trace the circles making them large enough to accommodate whatever you want them to hold. There is a template in the book or just make a circle yourself.
- Cut out one front and two backs. The front is a full circle. The back is a circle cut in half (both pieces).
- Cut out the stem from green felt.
- Cut out the eyes, nose, and mouth from black felt.
- Stitch the black face pieces onto the front of the full orange circle using black embroidery floss.
- Place the pumpkin face down and place the two half pieces on the back so that they line up and the center edges overlap slightly.
- Place the stem piece in between the front and back pieces at the top of the pumpkin.
- Pin the layers in place and stitch around the pumpkin using 6 strands of yellow embroidery floss. Make sure you stitch the stem in place.
- Fill the pouch with non candy Halloween treats.
There are a lot of candy alternatives for Halloween including pencils, stickers, bouncy balls, Play Doh, Silly Putty, spider rings, plastic eyeballs, and even bubbles. Just step outside of the box and think about what the kids would like to receive.
While there probably won’t be a Halloween without candy, you can at least offer a healthier alternative with these healthy substitutes for sweets.

They’re amazing – I love how you added the Boogie Wipes too 🙂
What a great idea! Have you seen the Turquoise Pumpkin Project info floating around the web? Basically, you paint a pumpkin turquoise, put it on your porch, and that signals families with food allergies or other health concerns that you have non-food treats available at your house. These would be so great for something like that!
I haven’t but what a great idea!
I like this healthy option! And it is so cute- kids will love it 🙂
I would love if you share it with my fall themed party Big Autumn Bash:
