How to Make Your House Look Clean
In the past, I’ve shared a few quick kitchen cleaning tips when you’re struggling with that room. But, today I wanted to talk about keeping the whole house clean.
This bathroom cleaning list will help you really deep clean your master bath and guest bathrooms.
I am the first person to admit that cleaning the house is not something that’s high on my list of fun things to do. After I have worked all day, made dinner, and washed the dishes, the only thing I want to do is relax for a few with a cup of tea before it starts all over again tomorrow.
Unfortunately, ignoring the housework isn’t something that I can do and still have the house look decent.
I tend to do most of my housework on the weekends. That means on Monday, the house looks pretty darn good. On Friday, not as much.
While I try to do a quick pick-up at the end of the day, I don’t have time to deep clean during the week after working and taking care of everything else.
But, that doesn’t mean I can completely ignore the house all week either.
How to speed clean your house
I have a small home that is two stories and 1500 square feet. We have three bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen.
When we entertain, our visitors stay on the first floor which has the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Cleaning my house for guests involves cleaning those three rooms.
- Gather all of your supplies together
- Pick up and put away the clutter
- Wipe the mirrors and the glass
- Swish and swipe the bathroom
- Wipe down all of the surfaces
- Vacuum and mop the floors
- Spray an air freshener
Use a robotic vacuum
A great time-saver is using a robotic vacuum to keep up with the housework. That is one less step that you’ll have to deal with.
You simply set the schedule you want and it vacuums up pet hair, stray cereal pieces, and dirt while you’re out having a great afternoon.
The Neato D8 Intelligent Robot Vacuum can clean up to 750 square feet on a single charge. It’s perfect for smaller to medium-sized homes like mine.
If you have a larger home, no worries, the Neato D8 Intelligent Robot Vacuum has up to 100 minutes of run time. It will then return to the base to charge more and then continue.

How to make a house look tidy
Tidying your house is a phrase that reminds me of Marie Kondo’s method of cleaning. If you haven’t read the book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, I highly recommend it.
The easiest way to make your house look clean is to keep things in their place. Put everything back where it goes when you’re done with it from the coffee cup you used that morning to the blanket you curled up with when you were reading.
Keeping clutter off the floor means that a robotic vacuum like the Neato D8 Intelligent Robot Vacuum can keep the floors spotless while you’re not home.
When cleaning a house, where do you start?
I try very hard to stick to Flylady’s method of cleaning my home. She breaks tasks down into short time periods and follows a schedule where you do the same tasks each time every week.
You spend 15 minutes decluttering each day. And you focus on deep cleaning a different room roughly every month. I’m not perfect but it works pretty well for us.
How to make your house look less cluttered
The only way to have a truly clean house is to clean it or pay someone to do it for you. Keeping the clutter to a minimum will make it easier to make your house look clean.
Put laundry in the laundry basket, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, magazines in the magazine rack. Then create a weekly cleaning schedule that is realistic for you and your needs.
If you’re expecting company soon and need to do a quick clean-up, focus on the room you’ll be visiting in. Don’t waste time cleaning rooms they won’t see.
You can focus on them at another time. Just close the door to those rooms for now. Follow as many of these tips to make your house look cleaner as you have time to do.
Swish and swipe toilets and sinks. Heaven forbid your guests need to use the bathroom and it isn’t clean.
Quickly clean the toilet and the sinks and add clean towels to the towel rack. To give your house a professionally cleaned look, fold the towels in three.
How can you make a dirty house look clean?
If your house is truly dirty, the best thing to do is to tackle the most obvious problems. Look at your floors. Are they covered with crumbs, cat hair, and dirt from your shoes?
Quickly run the robotic vacuum over your floors to deal with crumbs and dirt. Then do a quick damp mop to get obvious stains. This is one of the easiest ways to make your house look clean.
Take out the garbage and recycling. And, light a candle if you are dealing with pet, cooking, or baby odors. Then eliminate the source of the odor as much as possible.
Favorite homemade cleaners
I don’t go all out when it comes to cleaning products and accessories. I have a few simple things that I keep on hand at all times to keep my house clean.
