I’m all about making things from scratch when I can but for some reason, I never thought about making my own screen cleaner. After doing some research online, I learned that you shouldn’t use traditional window cleaners on your screens because they may contain ammonia or alcohol – both of which can damage your screen and remove the protective coating.

Did you know that the Wall Street Journal did a study that shows all you really need to clean your screens is distilled water and a microfiber cloth? For monitors that need a bit of extra help, you can use a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and distilled water. For the areas between your keys on your keyboard, I found that canned air really is the best solution.

  1. You are right, there are always fingerprints on all of our screend! It drives me crazy. I'll definitely have to make some of this cleaner! Thanks for sharing!
  2. I have no idea how I see anything on my screen there are so many fingerprints, food residue, and god knows what else.
  3. This is what I use! I use vinegar for everything and must be one of the few people who actually like the smell, lol. I was hoping this post would be for cleaning your window screens (ha, ha). Any tips for those? I live by a freeway (and the Burbank airport!), along with the bus route by my apt, so I have serious smog buildup on my screens. I did get a replacement for the bathroom screen so didn't have to clean that one! Sorry, veered way off topic.
