You’ll love how easy this cinnamon stick craft is! When I think of fall, I think of apples and cinnamon. I have always gone apple picking in the fall so the connection is probably natural. Every time I go apple picking, I make applesauce and apple crisp. Both of these have cinnamon in them. This is also a great way to upcycle a votive holder.

Cinnamon Stick Craft – Cinnamon Stick Votive Holder
It’s too early to go apple picking yet in Vermont but that doesn’t mean I cannot enjoy the scent of cinnamon. This cinnamon stick craft is very easy to do and the cinnamon stick votive holder can make a great gift for yourself or someone else.
Materials
You will need these supplies.
- Enough cinnamon sticks to go around the entire votive holder
- Clear glass votive holder
- Rubber band
- Raffia or hemp cord
- Tealight candle or votive candle
Directions
- Arrange the cinnamon sticks around the votive holder. Try to ensure that they are all the same length and shape so they nest together properly.
- Use the rubber band to hold the cinnamon sticks firmly against the glass votive holder.
- Wrap the raffia or hemp cord around the cinnamon sticks to cover the rubber band.
- Add a tealight candle or votive candle to the glass votive holder, light and enjoy.
Where does cinnamon come from?
Cinnamon is a spice you can get from the inner bark of several trees. The outer bark of the tree is peeled off to reveal the inner bark. The inner bark is then peeled off in long rolls and dried. Once the inner bark is completely dried, it is cut into shorter segments for sale.
Those are the cinnamon sticks that you purchase in the store. When you purchase a container of cinnamon spice, the dried inner bark has been grated finely into a powder.
Much of the cinnamon we use comes from Sri Lanka. The lower grades of cinnamon have been treated by fumigation and are not considered to be the same high quality as cinnamon that has not been treated.
Treated cinnamon sticks are fine for crafts but if you are planning on eating them, look for the higher quality.
Because you are holding the cinnamon sticks onto the candle with a rubber band, you can easily take this apart when the candle is gone or the votive holder needs to be washed.
