I hope these work at home productivity tips help make your day a bit more productive! Working at home is a long time dream come true for me.  I spent over twenty years working for someone else.  During that time, the one thing I missed more than anything else was having the flexibility to deal with family issues. I wanted to be at home with my husband and children when they needed me. Working at home has given me that flexibility but not without some costs. It isn’t as easy to work at home and be productive as it was to work in my own office away from home.

Work at Home Productivity Tips

I do not have a door I can close when I need to concentrate and every little task seems to draw my attention away from work – whether that’s laundry that needs to be done or my Mom calling on the phone to chat. It is possible to be productive while working at home but it takes more effort than working elsewhere.  There are more distractions and it isn’t as easy to separate your responsibilities.  If you’re wondering how to work from home productively, here are a few work-at-home productivity tips that are helping me stay on top of things.

Talk to Your Family

It is important that your family understands that you are not “playing on the computer” when you are really working. Explain to them that this is your job and you still have tasks and deadlines that need to be done. If you have young children at home, try to get help watching them when you need to work.

Turn Off Distractions

If you have a deadline, turn off the television and the ringer on the phone.  Don’t check your emails or your text messages until you are done with the project. Silence your phone if you have it set to vibrate or ding with each notification.

Maintain a schedule

It’s tempting to sleep late and take two-hour lunches but if you want your work at home job to bring a full-time income, you need to devote full-time hours to it. For your sanity, make sure that you do not schedule 12 hour days any more often than you have to. Remember to break for lunch as well. My planner is vital for staying on track.

Have a dedicated work area

It’s easier to be productive at a desk in front of your computer than laying in bed with your laptop. If you don’t have a dedicated office area, at least try to work at the same table in the same area of your home.

Take advantage of technology.

Use available technology to help you be more productive. Have you seen the new Pixelbook? The new high-performance Chromebook — and Pixelbook Pen1 — the smart, responsive stylus is designed to enhance the way you work and play. It’s the first laptop with the Google Assistant built in2, so you’ll be able to get more done faster and smarter. From its ultra-thin design to its collection of apps, Pixelbook is beautifully versatile and effortlessly adapts to your lifestyle. And because it’s powered by Chrome OS, you’ll always have the latest security and software features 3.

Google Pixelbook

At just 10.3mm, Pixelbook is Google’s thinnest laptop ever, with a lightweight aluminum construction that enhances portability. The 360° touchscreen and versatile 4-in-1 design will seamlessly adjust to whatever you’re doing, too. You can sketch or edit photos, stay productive with GSuite apps that Drive automatically backs up to your device5, and enjoy on-or-offline access to movies and TV shows with apps like Google Play Movies and YouTube Red.

Do more of what you love with apps including Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Photos and more. You can always download your favorites from YouTube Red and Google Play Movies to enjoy even without Wi-Fi. The most productive way to work from home is to stay organized.
