Why to Take a Natural Probiotic for Winter Health

Last Updated on August 14, 2020 by Ellen Christian

Do you take a natural probiotic? Winters in Vermont are long and cold. We spend less time outside and more time inside and that means we pass germs back and forth a lot quicker.  I have been exploring different doctor recommended ways to stay healthy during the winter. We often see our first snow in October and the last snow generally melts away in late April or early May.  That is a long time to be cooped up inside.   I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. Why to Take a Natural Probiotic

I’m very much an outdoor type person in the nice weather but I am not someone who enjoys playing in the snow. I have asthma and cold weather or the slightest cold or flu symptom can bring on an asthma attack. Because my immune system is less than perfect, I need to make sure I make healthy decisions.

I’ve been working on revamping our eating habits for about six months now.  I am slowly eliminating the unhealthy, overly processed foods and replacing them with healthy, organic and homemade alternatives.  I’ve stopped shopping at our traditional grocery store for the most part and instead shop at our local organic food coop. I’m learning to be sneaky creative when I cook since my husband and teens aren’t always open to new foods.  I’ve even taken to hiding spinach in beef stew and beets in smoothies to get a few more healthy foods into their diet.

I’ve even started buying raw milk from a local organic dairy because it is healthier than other alternatives. Check out the calf I got to visit when I picked up our raw milk yesterday.

Why to take a natural probiotic - shoveling is exercise

I drink plenty of water and encourage the kids to do the same. I watch my weight and try to exercise regularly. In the summer, exercising is easy because it’s usually gorgeous outside. In the winter, I ride my stationary bike or I get my exercise by shoveling snow. Trust me, shoveling out the duck and chicken coop is great exercise!

I am also making sure that everyone takes a vitamin and a natural probiotic like Insync Probiotic each day.  Probiotic bacteria (good bacteria like B.Infantis) help with digestion and help keep your immune system healthy.  Some people think that all bacteria are unhealthy but they really aren’t.  There are a lot of different types of bacteria that live in your body including those in your stomach and digestive system.  These are the bacteria you want to have because they help keep you healthy.

Why to take a natural probiotic- healthy foods

When my daughter was diagnosed as gluten intolerant, I learned that taking a natural probiotic and eating healthier foods can help with the symptoms of gluten insensitivity.  Processed foods and low fiber foods can upset the digestive system balance of good and bad bacteria in your body.  When that happens, the bad bacteria begin to overpower the good bacteria. When the bad bacteria start to get out of control, we start having problems and our immune systems can be overloaded because they are trying to deal with the problem.

The last time I was at Walgreens, I noticed a new natural probiotic called Insync probiotic in the digestive aids aisle. It intrigued me because it is a gradual release probiotic and that helps protect the probiotics from stomach acids. We just take one each morning with our vitamins and a big glass of water.

  1. I’ve been hearing a lot more lately about raw milk and I need to read more into it. I love the cold weather because I’m from Texas and we don’t get much here. I can’t even imagine October to May…I would go crazy! #client

  2. We don’t take probiotics daily unless we have digestive issues. But we do take them as soon as any of us are prescribed an antibiotic to replenish what the antibiotics strip away.

  3. Years ago I had a really bad infection and was in the hospital for awhile and then came home on quite a few antibiotics. I was told that there were pretty bad side effects from all the meds and I was sent home with probiotics… I had no bad side effects and beat the infection. My mom also wears by them!

  4. I need a new one and really intrigued by this brand. Since most live cultures can be killed in our stomach acid, this one seems like a winner!

  5. I love the beautiful weather of spring, summer and fall. That means that I’m not a big fan of winter either. It’s beautiful, but I’d rather be outside. I am trying to do what I can to stay healthy even in those winter months. My biggest thing is drinking lots of water!

  7. This is really good advice. I started taking a daily probiotic about six months ago and feel like I really benefit from it and have better digestion.

  8. We all take probiotics every day. We’ve found they really help our daughter’s digestion. She was having a tough time earlier this past year and after starting to take probiotics regularly her symptoms got a lot better and she doesn’t have nearly as many troubles. We’ve not yet tried this brand yet though, I’ll have to look for it in the store and try it out next time we need some.

  9. I’ve heard a lot of positive things about taking a probiotic but they make me nervous since I’ve had gall bladder surgery and often have experienced digestive issues. I’m finally at a point where I have most of my issues under control and am afraid to change up my diet/nutrients too much.
