It’s been a year or so now since I started on my journey toward living a more healthy lifestyle. Where I used to rely on quick prepared foods and fast food, I now focus on food that’s healthy AND easy to make. I still don’t have any more time in the kitchen than I did when I had unhealthy eating habits. Planning ahead lets me eat healthy even on nights that I’m pressed for time. There are a lot of meal choices that are healthy that don’t need two hours of preparation.

Must Have Healthy Kitchen Appliances

What I keep in the kitchen has changed a bit since I started paying attention to what I eat. My most used kitchen appliance use to be my microwave. It was great for heating up those “healthy” frozen dinners I thought were a good choice.  Now, I have a different set of  things in my kitchen and these must have healthy kitchen appliances are the ones I use the most.

Must Have Healthy Kitchen Appliances - Bella NutriPro Cold Press Juicer

1. A cold press juicer – I’ll admit that I don’t eat anywhere near as many vegetables as I should each day. I really do try but I would rather eat fruit most of the time. Plus, there are some vegetables I should eat that I really don’t like – like kale. I hate kale but I will drink it if I juice it with other fruits and vegetables. Cold press juicers will yield more fresh juice with more nutrients than centrifugal juicers which use heat. I’ve had the Bella NutriPro Cold Press Juicer for quite a while and it really stands up to continuous use.

2. A food processor – Healthy eating for me means eating more fruits and vegetables. While I sometimes sit down with a whole carrot, more often than not, I am chopping it to go with something else. I also eat a lot more stir fry and that means chopping a lot of fresh vegetables. While I could do it by hand, it takes too much time. Instead, I toss it all in my food processor and in a few seconds, everything is chopped or diced. I recommend the Cuisinart 12-Cup Food Processor because it has nesting bowls of different sizes and adjustable slicing and reversible shredding discs.

3. A slow cooker – One of the biggest stumbling blocks I had to making healthy choices for dinner was a lack of time. After working 10 hours a day, I just did not want to start at the beginning when I was making dinner.  Starting something in my slow cooker in the morning meant I could have a hot, healthy meal ready for dinner after work. I love my Ninja 3 in 1 Cooking System because it’s not only a slow cooker but can also be used to roast, sear and even bake!

4. An immersion blender – I eat a lot of salads and I do enjoy salad dressing on them at times. Most of the salad dressings in the store contain ingredients I don’t want to eat. The solution is to make my own. An immersion blender allows you to make your own mayonnaise and salad dressings. It’s also great for blending soups and making your own baby food. I’ve used several different styles but I find that the Proctor Silex brand is very reliable and affordable.

Must Have Healthy Kitchen Appliances - Zoku

5. A popsicle maker – When it’s hot out, I crave popsicles. Yes, those neon red, loaded with artificial sweetener or high fructose corn syrup frozen treats. I want something cold and sweet and the healthier choice is to have a popsicle maker like the Zoku Quick Pop Maker. Yes, you could use any popsicle mold if you plan ahead. However, if you are craving a cold treat and don’t want to wait hours for them to freeze, you need a Zoku. They will be ready in 7 to 9 minutes. You can use any type of juice or flavored water. Try making them out of the juice you make in your juicer or homemade yogurt!

There are other healthy kitchen appliances that I use like my yogurt maker and my sprouting jar but the ones I’ve listed above are the ones I use most often.

I have been thinking about juicing with the new year. The Cold Press Juicer looks like a great small appliance to use for that.
  4. I have the popsicle maker, but must admit I don't use it nearly enough.  I have made simple juice pops, but it has so much more potential.

I have been eyeing that Zoku for years. I have a friend who has one and makes all kinds of fresh yummy treats for her kids with it and it's frozen in no time!

These are really great and what fun to have a  popsicle maker!  I always tell my husband if my food processor breaks we are going out that very minute to buy a new one because I use it so much.  I really likes the look of this one so may buy one to keep in the cupboard for that just in case moment so I never am without one.
