Madagascar Vanilla Coconut Body Scrub

The heater is running all the time now since winter is here in Vermont. I love how pretty the snow looks outside but the heater is drying the air and that is drying out my skin. My hands need some serious pampering and moisturizing.  I’ve used coconut oil in this Madagascar Vanilla Coconut Body Scrub for extra hydration and my hands are just loving it.

Coconut oil leaves my hands feeling so soft and smooth. An added benefit is that coconut oil can also help improve the lipid content of your skin. I chose Madagascar vanilla as the scent in this coconut body scrub because it is the  most sought after variety of vanilla available.  The scent is much more aromatic than other types of vanilla beans which means I can enjoy this Madagascar Vanilla Coconut Body Scrub even more.

Madagascar vanilla beans are processed using a curing method that results in beans with a higher moisture content.  As vanilla beans dry out, the essential oils have dried out and this results in less scent and flavor, and (in my opinion) an inferior bean.  Always choose Madagascar vanilla and vanilla beans.

  • 1 cup of sugar (I used sucunat because it’s coarser.)
  • 1/3 cup epsom salts
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon Madagascar vanilla

  • Mix the sugar and the epsom salts in a bowl.
  • Add the Madagascar vanilla.
  • Add the coconut oil and combine till mixed.
  • Store in a Mason jar with a lid between uses.

To use, place about a nickel sized amount of the Madagascar Vanilla Coconut Body Scrub into one hand and rub thoroughly over both hands. Rinse off with warm water.

  1. Oh my goodness, I just love your clever tie-in to the Madagascar movies. Funny! We just saw the new show pop up in our Netflix feed, and we're going to give it a watch tonight. I think my two year old is going to love it! I didn't know that about Madagascar vanilla beans being moister; thank you for the great tip, and the great recipe for the sugar scrub!
  2. I bet that smells divine. I love all kinds of sugar scrubs.
  3. Jennifer Williams says:
I just made several products for skin care using coconut oil.  I will have to try this one as well - my skin is not loving winter so I am desperate to find thing stat work.
  4. We're looking forward to streaming the new Madagascar special on Netflix this holiday, but I bet the tween would love making this for a pamper session too! It's hard for me to connect with her cartoons and shows so this would be a great way to do so and still be 'cool.'
  5. I wish I could smell this body scrub.......I bet it's heavenly! :)
