Do you know how to make Instant Pot corned beef and cabbage? Before I got my Instant Pot, corned beef and cabbage was an all-day affair. Corned beef brisket is generally a tough cut of meat and to make it tender, you’d need to cook it for a long time. That’s not true any more thanks to my Instant Pot.

Instant Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage
If you aren’t familiar with the Instant Pot, it’s a programmable pressure cooker that lets me get dinner on the table fast even if I forget to defrost something. I’m not a big kitchen gadget person but my Instant Pot is definitely one of my favorite small appliances. I can do so many different things with it including making yogurt!
How long does it take to cooked corned beef?
In this case, it lets me get my Instant Pot corned beef and cabbage on the table in about 90 minutes. In a traditional pot on the stove, it would take me at least three or four hours which means it’s tough to get on the table after working all day.
Do you have to rinse corned beef before cooking?
I always rinse my corned beef before I cook it. It’s what my Mother did so it’s something that I do as well. I don’t know if it’s in the cooking book of rules or not but I do it out of habit.
How do you know when corned beef is ready?
I use for the fork test to determine whether or not my Instant Pot corned beef and cabbage is done. If it falls apart when I put my fork in it, then it’s done. If you cook this recipe for about 90 minutes, your corned beef should be done. Just check it first. If you want to be sure, the internal temperature should be about 160 degrees.
If you cook corned beef for too long, it will become tough. It’s not one of those meats that gets better if you cook it longer. Don’t overcook this.
Is corned beef and cabbage keto?
Yes, this recipe should qualify as both Paleo and Keto if you are following either of those diets.
When selecting a piece of Corned Beef Brisket for this recipe, it’s important to choose a “flat.” You may see whole brisket, point cut brisket, or brisket flat in the meat case. This recipe calls for a brisket flat: a rectangular piece of the whole brisket trimmed of excess fat. This cut is ideal for slicing. To find Certified Angus Beef in your area, you can use the store locator.
We almost never have leftovers, but if you do, here are a few recipes you can try:
- Dinner: Corned Beef Hash
- Breakfast: Corned Beef and Egg Biscuit Sandwiches
- Lunch: Corned Beef Wrap with Onion Relish and Gouda
You may also want to try a loaf of Irish Soda Bread with dinner and some Irish Spice Cake for dessert.
As a note, I have the Smart Instant Pot that lets me connect via Blue Tooth to my iPhone. You can make this recipe in the standard Instant Pot as well. If you have another brand or another type of pressure cooker, you will need to experiment for the correct time and temperature.
