Chicken Paprikash or Paprika Chicken is a Hungarian dish that gets its name from the paprika that gives the dish a bright red color. Paprika is a common spice used in Hungarian cooking.

Paprika is a dried and powdered spice that is made from certain varieties of peppers. It’s traditionally served over egg noodles although if you want to keep it gluten-free, you can easily serve it over rice or even gluten-free pasta.

What is chicken paprikash sauce made of?

Chicken Paprikash sauce is typically made from a mixture of sautéed onions, flavorful paprika, creamy sour cream, and chicken broth. This combination creates a rich, creamy, and spicy sauce that is perfect for coating tender pieces of chicken.

Can I use regular paprika instead of Hungarian paprika?

You can but the taste won’t be the same. Hungarian paprika has a smoky taste which is really important in the final recipe.

How long does chicken paprikash last in the fridge?

Store this in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will stay good for 3 to 4 days when stored this way. If you can, store the chicken and sauce in a separate container from the pasta or rice. It’s easier to reheat it this way.

To reheat it, place it in a small pan on the stove and heat it until it’s warm.

Does chicken paprikash freeze well?

Yes, store the leftovers in the freezer in a freezer container for up to two months. Make sure that you store the chicken part separately from the pasta.
