Easy Advent Wreath Craft

If you’re looking for an easy Advent Wreath craft that won’t cost a lot of money, this is exactly what you need. I love the pretty Advent displays I see in the home decor stores, but some of them can get really expensive. And, I’d rather not spend money on decor when I can use it for gifts.

Thankfully, this easy Advent Wreath craft uses some pretty basic materials that you probably already have at home. But, if you don’t, you can find them at the thrift store or in your own back yard.

What is an advent wreath?

So, if you’re not sure exactly why you need an Advent Wreath, let me explain. An Advent Wreath is used to track the passage of the four weeks of Advent that lead up to Christmas. It starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day and always ends on Christmas Eve.

What do the four candles symbolize?

The four candles symbolize each of the four Sundays. The first candle (purple) is lit on the first Sunday. It symbolizes hope. The second purple candle is lit on the second week and it symbolizes faith. The third candle (pink) is lit on the third Sunday. It reminds us of the joy we experienced when baby Jesus was born. The final candle (purple) is lit on the fourth week and it symbolizes prayer as we wait for Baby Jesus to be born.

Do I need a white candle?

The final candle, the white one in the center, is lit on Christmas Eve. It represents the life of Christ and is white to symbolize purity. Not all Advent Wreaths have a center white candle. You can light one in a candle holder if you prefer. Lighting an Advent Wreath helps us focus on the real reason for Christmas.

How to make an Advent Wreath

You can find a bundt pan at a thrift store if you don’t already have one. And, you might be able to find floral foam blocks in the same place. We always find our greenery and pine cones outside. But I know you can buy them on Amazon as well.

Easy Advent Wreath Craft directions

1. Begin by cutting your floral foam to fit the inside of your pan. You will need to place four blocks inside the pan, one for each candle you will be placing. A serrated knife works well when cutting foam, so keep this in mind when cutting the foam to fit.

2. Once the foam blocks are placed snuggly inside the pan, you can add the candles. Press each candle firmly into the foam so it is secure. If you want extra security, you can add a little hot glue to the bottom of the candle before pressing it to the foam.

3. Now, start assembling the holiday greenery. We took assorted greenery sprays and wrapped them around the candles. It is best to assemble the greenery how you want it first before you start using dabs of hot glue to secure it in place.

4. Go for a full look with the greenery, carefully placing it around the candles and securing it with dabs of glue. You can also add in pinecones to fill in any empty spaces.

5. Once the advent wreath is nice and full, you can display it. Always take care when burning candles, never leave candles unattended, and always properly extinguish.
