Changing what you eat every day is hard to do. Just like it’s a challenge for you, changing to natural cat food can be a challenge for your cats too. Just imagine how you’d feel if one day you came downstairs and none of your favorite foods were available any more. It would be a bit stressful. Thankfully, there are things that you can to do make changing to natural cat food easier for your pets.
Changing to Natural Cat Food
Switching cat foods can be challenging if you don’t do it the right way. We have switched our cats’ food several times throughout the years and sometimes it has gone more smoothly than others. Since I have taken a natural pet care challenge, we are working on changing to natural cat food for all three of our cats. Only Natural Pet is an all natural brand of pet products that is available from Pet360.com. Their products keep out chemicals, pesticides, preservatives, allergens, and anything artificial (flavors, colors, sweeteners, etc.). Only Natural Pet uses fresh meats, fresh fruits and veggies, free range and cage-free meats and no added antibiotics or hormones.
Here are a few tips that will help you make changing to natural cat food easier.
- Start by adding a bit of the new food to your cat’s existing food. Start by ratio of 1:3 (one part new to three parts old) and slowly transition based on how much your cat seems to take to the new food.
- Be patient it can take a few weeks especially if your cat is older or picky like ours.
- Make sure that the cats have a quiet, private spot to enjoy their food. This will help keep their stress level down.
- Try hand feeding your cat a few pieces of the new food as a treat to begin with. For some reason, our cats think anything hand feed is to be gobbled up quickly.
We had the chance to try several items from Only Natural Pet including their natural cat food, treats and a few of the supplements. We are very impressed with the quality of the products and the selection on the website. I love that there are some pet treats and foods that are suitable for both cats and dogs. This is a huge time and expense savings because you can get one food for both your pets. No need to order two separate ones or store two separate foods.
Of course, there are products specific to both dogs and cats as well. You can find things like flea collars, shampoo and conditioner, cat litter and more. I love that they have a complete line of all natural solutions for your pets. I urge you to start changing to natural cat food today. Visit Pet360.com for more information on what they have to offer.

I wish we could try this! Looks great! Both my pets are on prescription food at the moment.
That is difficult, Kristin. We had one on a prescription food last year but he didn’t like the taste 🙁
We actually make our dog’s food homemade because of an illness he has.
If we did not we would use a natural food. Great to know the options that are available!
I’ve considered trying that with our cats. For now, I like knowing that there are all natural cat foods.
I am an avid ingredient list reader in my own food, as well as my pets. No cats here but the dog eats well!
That’s great, Diane! It’s so important to be aware of the ingredients.
We will be changing our kittens to adult food soon. We also do the gradual change over here. I’m going to check out Only Natural for them
That’s great, Brett! Let me know how it goes!
That’s really smart to just switch out a bit at a time. I would totally have used up my bag and then made a cold turkey switch! Probably wouldn’t go over as well.
A lot of people try to do it that way, Janel, and the kitties don’t generally like it.
We don’t have any pets but if we did I would treat the same as I treat ourselves. This sounds like a great product, all natural is the way to go.
That’s the way that we try to do it, Sandra.
Our dogs are a huge part of our lives. I agree that they should eat as good as we do. What a great tip to mix the foods together until they get used to the new food.
Thanks, Brandy! Glad it was helpful!
Great post Ellen. As a cat lover, I want only the best for my kitties! We just switched to a Grain-Free Wet and Dry Food and they are loving it!
Thanks, Kristen! Grain free is so much better for them!
I never thought about how switching my pet’s food could be disturbing to him. It makes sense. Adding a bit of the new food to the familiar one is a good idea. And you’re right about our kitties liking to eat out of our hands. They think they are getting something sneaky.
They do! It works well to get them to try new things though!
Seriously what is it with pets thinking food is something special just because you hand feed it to them. Our pets do that too. Dog/cat food is suddenly a “treat.” It’s so funny.
I know! They are just so cute when they do that!
I want to get my cats moved over to a completely all natural cat food.
That’s definitely the way to go, Debi!
Thanks for these tips! My furbabies appreciate it, I always try to take care when switching their foods to prevent upset. Only Natural Pet sounds amazing!
They really do have some great products. We are very impressed.
I do not have cats, but I have fond memories of hand feeding infant kittens when their mom abandoned them when i was younger. I think in the future, I’d love to get a Persian cat.
Oh I love Persians! They are just gorgeous!
These are great tips! We recently switched our cat to new food and she loves it. She started picking out the new food and ignoring the old food.
Isn’t it cute when they do that?
Love that they have dog stuff too! Will have to check it out for my dog!
That’s great, Dominique! Hope you find some things that work for you!
We try to do natural food for our pets, at least corn free always and try to be grain free entirely. It’s tough because one of our cats has to be on a special urinary tract diet.
Finding foods for special diets is definitely challenging!
It’s always comforting to find brands taking the natural route in pet food too. There really is a lot of gunk out there in the food aisles!
Very true and that’s the case in our food & theirs!
Great tips for those of us with picky cats who don’t take well to introducing new foods!
Glad to help! Picky cats can definitely make things more difficult!
My cats have food allergies so I have to be very careful about what I feed them. Good food is so important for pet health. I will be checking out Pet360!
Allergies definitely complicate the process, Pam. There’s so many things they could be allergic to.
I just visited the pet360 that you linked above. They have so many cool products, especially for cats!
They really do. I love their selection!
Great tips on introducing the change, Sending to a friend of mine that was just talking about doing this the other day. She’ll love reading this!
Thanks, Tammi. Appreciate you sharing.
My dog eats natural pet food too. I do need to check out Pet360 to find a natural solution for his new health issues. He is getting older now and needs some TLC and natural products 🙂
Our oldest cat is having some issues as she ages too. It’s not easy getting older.
I really love when companies go natural for my pets. We have dogs and I like having natural food for them.
I agree. Having natural choices makes me much more likely to shop somewhere.
We have some of the Only Natural Pet treats for dogs and cat. I love that I can use the same product for both of our pets because the Cat is always in the dog’s treats all the time anyway. SO this just helps us feel better that it is safe for him.
It really is handy to use the same treats for both pets!
We don’t have any cats but we feed our dog all natural products only! Nice to see you made the change, looks like winner to your kitty!
Heather is definitely enjoying these treats we gave her!
I have never considered this before. Thanks for giving me something to think about. 🙂
I’m always happy to share information with my readers. If you have any questions, let me know!
We were just talking about doing this with our trio of cats- your infromation will make this so much easier! Thank you!!
Glad to help, Emily!
We changed to a natural dog food for our beagle, and have never gone back!
Oh I love beagles. They are so cute!
Never been a cat person. Last time we tried to rescue one it proceeded to throw up all over our new couch on day 1. Never tried again after that.
Oh no, Scott! Poor kitty & poor couch!
That is just awesome. I love making the choice to go natural. I mean, I try to find only natural and healthy items for me and my family, why wouldn’t I do the same for my petbaby?
Exactly, Shauna! For us, our kitties are part of the family!
It makes sense to choose for our pets as carefully as we choose for ourselves.
Yes it does, Liz! I agree!
