Shoes for a Busy Lifestyle

As far back as high school, I have always had a passion for shoes.  I remember when I was 16 spending $160 of my own hard earned money on a gorgeous pair of grey leather boots with a 4″ heel that my Mom had refused to buy me.

I’m sure that her refusal was in part because 4″ wasn’t exactly a realistic height for a pair of boots for a 16 year old. I remember wearing them for the first day and my feet HURT so much by the end of the day.

Of course, I didn’t want my other to know she was actually right about those shoes so I continued to wear them.

My tastes in shoes have changed a lot from when I was 16. I may still sigh over a gorgeous pair of 4″ heels but there is no way they will ever be found in my closet again.

I do love the way those shoes look in the store but the memory of those 4″ heels reminds me to not make that mistake again.

Today, I need shoes for a busy lifestyle that are both stylish and comfortable. I spend a lot of time on my feet, running errands, shopping, standing in line, etc. I cannot do that in 4″ heels even on a good day.

Dansko shoes

Dansko has a wonderful selection of shoes that are both stylish and super comfortable.  They were incorporated in 1990 and over the past 23 years have shown, what I think, is a fantastic commitment to giving back.

They work with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Canine Partners for Life, and Adopt a Highway (to name just a few).  In 2009, they recycled 86% of their waste.

Dansko Tilda

I received a pair of the Tilda style shoes from Dansko.  The Dansko Tilda have a custom cross-hatch stretch design across the top that keeps your foot comfortably in place. They are flexible enough to wear with dress pants, jeans or even a skirt.

Since I rarely wear skirts, I knew I would most often wear these shoes with pants or jeans.  The Dansko Tilda has a slight heel (2 ” plus 1/2″ platform) that makes it dressy without being too dressy for jeans.

I love shoes that can be worn with a variety of different outfits. It has a leather upper and lining/polyurethane sole. The footbed is soft and supports my foot well making this an extremely comfortable pair of shoes even when I’m on my feet most of the day.

Dansko Tabitha

The Dansko Tabitha book is made of 100% leather. It is my go to pair of boots for casual, comfortable style. It’s a few years old, but last I saw, you could buy it here.

I have a number of different pairs of Dansko in my closet. They are my go to shoe when I travel because I know I will be on my feet all day. Most of the shoes I have from Dansko are the stapled clog style which I generally wear with my jeans.

That style really isn’t dressy enough to wear with slacks which is why I chose the Tilda this time.  I love that it has just a bit more style because of the cross-hatch stretch design and the burnished black color means I can wear it with just about anything.

  1. Since I am a nurse in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), I would choose the Tabitha style that would give me more ankle support.

  2. I really want and need new shoes for autumn and winter that are in a burgundy color like the Cordovan ~ and usually I can’t resist Mary Janes (especially with a 2″ heel like the Tandy) but – in this case I think my most favorites are a tie between the Tamera and the Tilda styles.)

  3. I think I would use the Wolfgang Puck Pressure Oven quite a lot.  I like that it cuts the cooking time down so much but is still a real oven.  I use my microwave when I am in a hurry but don’t like using it for real meals.  It’s ok for some jobs but I love a real oven.
