Homemade Hot Chocolate Like Grandma Made
The holidays are times when I start thinking about family memories and hot chocolate like Grandma made. The kids are 18 and 22 now but it really doesn’t seem like that long ago that they were still in kindergarten. Every time my son walks in the door and he’s over 6 feet tall with a beard and mustache, I’m initially startled.
It really doesn’t seem possible that he’s grown up so quickly. Of course, I’m sure my parents feel the same way when they look at my sister and me.
One of the memories I have from when the kids were little is enjoying homemade hot chocolate like Grandma made. You know the kind that is rich and sweet and creamy?
The kind you make in an actual pot on the stove with milk and cocoa rather than from an envelope or a plastic cup? This is definitely not a healthy hot chocolate, but it is one that brings back memories of a slower time in my life when things could be made from scratch.
When everyone sat in the living room on the weekends and watched cartoons before everyone grew up and got busy.
So, before I start crying and smear my mascara, here is the recipe.
I don’t let myself splurge or indulge in sweet treats very often. And, I try really hard to stick to a diet that’s low in sugar and includes real, healthy ingredients.

I’m far from an extremist and I think that the holidays are a good time to relax a little bit and indulge in some memories. This back to basics hot chocolate maker is the best I’ve found.
One of my favorite ones is watching the kids jump in leaves in the backyard and then everyone coming in for hot chocolate. Enjoy jumping in those leaves while the kids are still young.

I so want to try putting the maple syrup in mine. I’ve never tried that twist before!
It really is good, Jenna!
Hot chocolate is our Friday night treat after the high school football game. We’ll have to give this recipe a try — the maple syrup part has me intrigued!
It really does make it just perfect!
Wow that hot chocolate will get you started. I would be bouncing off the walls with that much sugar. My grandma made coffee in her peculator every morning and I just loved the smell to wake up to. She was a school cook so she could make anything and she did decorate cakes professionally so I’m sure she could make a mean hot chocolate.
It’s definitely not an every day thing here. It’s a yummy treat for the holidays though!
We love hot chocolate and this recipe looks amazing. I can’t wait to try it on a snowy day.
That would be amazing, Rachel!

Thank you so much!
Okay we are definitely going to have to try this recipe out and adopt this as our own tradition! This sounds amazing!
