Protecting Your Identity While Shopping

Last Updated on September 5, 2020 by Ellen Christian

I love to shop and I shop at a lot of different types of stores each week. There’s the normal grocery shopping, prescriptions and pet stores but I also shop for new outfits and make up. I’m the one in charge of home improvement projects so you’ll find me buying paint and home furnishings too. It’s hard to keep track of where I’ve shopped each week.

Protecting Your Identity While Shopping

It seems like every month, I hear about another data breach at a store I shop at regularly. The latest one at Home Depot totally freaked me out because I just made a purchase there a few weeks ago.  I tried to remember whether I had used my debit card, credit card, a check or a gift card when I shopped there last. Which personal information did I have to worry about and check on? Of course, the statements haven’t arrived in the mail to make this process easier.

Last year, when Lands End had a data breach, someone got my credit information and used it to make two purchases online. That was so scary! I had to cancel my credit card and change information at my bank. I worried for weeks whether or not they had gotten some other information or used my card somewhere else.

Thankfully, LifeLock offers services that can really give me peace of mind when it comes to protecting your identity while shopping. Lifelock provides notifications of this type of breach. I always forget to monitor my bank account and credit card for activity. I just look at the statement once a month. That’s too late if there’s a problem. Lifelock is always working and there to notify you of this type of activity. That’s one less thing that I have to worry about.

Another great thing about LifeLock is that it helps to reduce the amount of pre-approved credit card offers you get in the mail.  I am amazed at all the junk mail I get!  I cannot tell you how many times I am offered some kind of pre-approved credit card. I always shred them just to be safe but what if someone else got ahold of it and used it with my name on it? Yikes! LifeLock protection reduces the amount of pre-approved credit card offers you receive.

I am so glad that LifeLock provdes these services. I really have enough things to worry about as it is with two teenagers driving.  Sign up today on the LifeLock site and use the 10% off promo code”LifeLockSafety”

  1. This is such a great service. I had my credit card taken when they hit Target. It was really bad because I was overseas and that was the card I planned on using since it had no foreign transction fee.
