Gnome Wreath DIY
It doesn’t get much more cute and country than garden gnomes. So, why not take that same theme and add your gnome to a wreath.
I just love gnomes and have several as decorations in my garden from the dollar store. You can make this adorable gnome wreath with Dollar Tree supplies. Or, shop at a store near you.
Christmas gnomes are very popular so you shouldn’t have any issue making a Christmas gnome wreath. But, even if you can’t find a Dollar Tree gnome that is patriotic, you should be able to find a standard gnome you can decorate with red, white, and blue colors.
Why are gnomes so popular?
Gnomes have been around for centuries and many cultures have their own version of this mythical creature. In Scandinavia, these creatures are called Tomte or Nisse. And, in Germany they are known as Gartenzwerg.
The gnome is a symbol of good luck and is said to bring fortune to those who have them in their homes. Garden gnomes are also thought to be protectors of plants and gardens.
But, even if you don’t believe in the old stories, this patriotic gnome wreath DIY is a fun way to add a bit of welcome to your front door.
How to make a gnome wreath?
This wreath starts with a grapevine wreath form, then add patriotic ribbon, and your gnome. The great thing about this wreath is that you can add or take away as you like to make it just perfect for your home.
This is a Patriotic Gnome Wreath so it works for patriotic holidays like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. But, you can make a Christmas gnome wreath or an Easter gnome wreath just by changing the colors that you use.

This wreath was made with hot glue and zip ties. But, you can use floral wire. Just attach it carefully to the grapevine wreath so that your Dollar Tree gnome doesn’t move around.
How to make a gnome wreath
Whether you want to make a Christmas gnome wreath or another type, this is what you need to do.
This is really so much fun to create. I hope you like the final results. Take a look at the video tutorial DIY if you prefer.
How to make a Dollar Tree gnome wreath
- To remove the gnomes from the stakes, just bend the metal pieces off of each of them.
- Bend each of the rose bunches so that they curve a bit and fit the shape of the grapevine wreath. Then zip tie the stems to the grapevine wreath and trim the ends off. Or, you can wrap floral wire around it instead. Don’t forget to add enough hot glue.
- Then in the middle, add the patriotic bow and ribbon so that it covers the stems.
- Add a dab of hot glue to the backside of the gnomes and added the zip tie (you could also use some twine if you don’t have any zip ties) and add the zip tie on top. Use this to add the hot glue to the places where the gnome touches the grapevine to add some security.
How to make a fall gnome wreath
Just follow the same directions but use fall colors to create your wreath. You may be able to find a gnome hat in Halloween or fall colors. Gnomes are popular for all sorts of holidays.
The Dollar Tree has lots of decor ideas for the holiday season. If you can’t find what you need for your DIY gnome there, check another dollar store.
How to make a Christmas gnome wreath
Again, follow the same basic steps to create your gnome but use Christmas colors like red, green, and white. You could even find some plaid ribbon to add to your wreath. I have seen that at the Dollar Tree several times.
If you can’t find a gnome that is dressed for Christmas, you can always dress one up yourself with a scarf or hat. Or, leave them as they are.
Why not add a jingle bell to the wreath when you’re done? A jingle bell is a cute idea for a DIY Christmas wreath.
Your patriotic or Christmas wreath DIY will look great no matter what you do.
How to hang a wreath on a front door
Hanging a wreath on a door is fairly simple. The best way to do this is with a wreath hanger. But, if you don’t have one, you can use ribbon or twine. Just make sure that it is long enough to go around the entire door and then tie it in a bow or knot.
You could also use command strips to hang your wreath but I prefer the ribbon or wreath hanger method.
