Living in rural Vermont, you can probably guess that I enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors. We live on two acres of land out in the country so it’s pretty easy to find things to enjoy outside. While there are always chores that need to be done taking care of the ducks and chickens and the gardens, sometimes it feels good to just kick back and enjoy yourself. We live on a dirt road so whenever I can, I enjoy taking long walks. One of our neighbors up the road has llamas so I like to walk up there and watch them. They are shy and don’t come to the fence but I keep hoping some day that they will. I pick some wildflowers while I’m out so I can enjoy the outdoors after I come home.

Outdoor Family Fun
There’s also a swimming hole down the road called The Blue Hole. It’s actually in the middle of a stream but it’s deep enough for people to go swimming in. I’m not much for swimming in anything but a swimming pool but the kids enjoy walking over and taking a dip when it’s really hot. I have been known to wander around in the shallow part and splash a little bit on super hot summer days. Right down near the creek is the same spot that the wild leeks grow so when I’m down there, I generally dig up a few for dinner.
Of course, there is all sorts of outdoor family fun when you live in the country. We have a volleyball net we set up for the kids to play volleyball. I used to be fairly good when I was younger but I generally lose now. My son has a basketball hoop set up in the drive way so occasionally we shoot a few hoops together. He’s over 6′ tall now so he does a lot better than I do. It sure was easier to beat him before he got so tall. I remember when the kids were smaller, we used to go down to our town beach and I’d push them on the swings and play on the jungle gym. Doesn’t really seem like it was all that long ago that our outdoor family fun included digging in the sand box.
I also enjoy riding my bike around our neighborhood. The one I have right now is quite old and needs some serious repairs. That’s why I was so excited when I learned that I would be getting a brand new Schwinn bicycle to ride around! I’m going to ride it for a week and take pictures of all the sites I see around my neighborhood and share my outdoor family fun and adventures with you. I’m not sure which bike I’ll be getting yet but I think this one looks pretty cool!
If you’re not familiar with Scwinn, here’s a bit to introduce you:
If we’ve learned anything from more than a century of building bikes, it’s that some things never get old. From that first taste of freedom, when the training wheels come off, to the wonder of a parent letting go, and all of the ups and downs in between, magical moments in life happen on a Schwinn. Life’s a ride. Enjoy it on a Schwinn.
