Beaches in Vermont: Crystal Lake Bomoseen

Last Updated on November 19, 2021 by Ellen Christian

If you’re planning a trip to the beach in Vermont, I definitely recommend that you check out Lake Bomoseen which is located in Bomoseen, Vermont on Route 30 North. Since it’s the closest beach to our home, we end up spending quite a bit of time there each year. If you’ll be in the area this summer, it’s a great place to visit and cool off with the kids.

Our Trip to the Beach in Vermont - Lake Bomoseen

Beaches in Vermont: Crystal Lake Bomoseen

Vermont is a great choice for vacation because the weather doesn’t get super hot in the summer. We still have temperatures in the 80s and 90s but it’s a very rare occasion that it gets to be over 95F or so. This means that you can enjoy being outside in the summer and still be comfortable.

Resorts in Vermont for Couples

If you plan on being in Vermont for more than a day, you will need to book accommodations. The Marble Mansion Inn in Fair Haven, Vermont is about 10 minutes from the beach. Overlooking Fair Haven’s village green, this 19th-century mansion with high ceilings and crystal chandeliers is a 6-minute walk from Castleton River.

Best Beach Vacations in Vermont

There are a number of different beaches in Vermont including Lake Bomoseen, Lake Champlain (above), and Lake St. Catherine. If you want lots of other attractions and nightlife, your best option will be Lake Champlain. If you want the ability to camp, I recommend Lake St. Catherine. But, if you want an afternoon at a beach for the family, Lake Bomoseen is my choice.

What to do at Lake Bomoseen

Lake Bomoseen is a great family-style beach. There is a dock you can walk out on from the beach. There is also a large sandy beach area that’s great for digging and making sandcastles. Kids will enjoy the swingset, slide, and climbing structures. You can usually find a volleyball net, grills for grilling, and a snack bar. There are many other summer things to do in Vermont while you’re here.

Best swimming lakes in Vermont

I really feel that Lake Bomoseen is one of the best swimming lakes in Vermont. It’s not as crowded and over-commercialized as Lake Champlain. And it’s much more affordable than Lake St. Catherine. It’s well maintained with great off-street parking. You do have to pay to get into the beach if you are not a resident.

Do you have a favorite lake in Vermont? You might want to take a hike on the Taconic Mountain Ramble.

  1. Ah – those picture's remind of many days spent at the lake when I was growing up. Great post. Not sure why someone didn't think of Wet Skin sooner.

  2. I keep hearing about this product – it sounds GREAT for quick sun protection… does it have a lot of harsh chemicals though? I would love a spray on sunscreen that really works! I have to check this out! 🙂

  3. I definitely need to try this Wet Skin. Trying to re-lotion a slipper little toddler running in and out of water is not the easiest thing in the world to do. :0)
