Swimmers can be exposed to chlorine from the time they spend in the pool or salt from the ocean.   Their skin loses hydration from perspiration and their skin and body need to be re-toned and hydrated.  They can be more often exposed to bacterial, staph infections and athletes foot from time spent in the gym or the public showers. All of these things mean that they need skin care that’s tailored specifically for their needs.  These organic skin care tips for athletes will give you a place to start.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to improve the effectiveness of sunscreen and moisturizes the skin. You can often find Vitamin E skin care creams that help moisturize very dry skin.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is a great skin moisturizer but also contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Look for pure, raw shea butter for the best results. You’ll find it works wonders on the rough spots on your feet and elbows.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera gel is known for its healing properties and is very good for minor burns and skin irritation like chafing. You can find aloe vera gel in many different skin care products. But, all you really need is the plain aloe vera gel.

Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil helps to tone your skin and contains antifungal and antibacterial properties. You can use the rosemary essential oil and add a few drops to your favorite skin care cream or lotion.

Black Pepper Oil

Black pepper essential oil has warming properties that make it perfect for tired feet and muscles. Again, you can add it to your favorite skin care product.

Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon essential oil helps to improve microcirculation. This is one of my favorite essential oils and often look for soaps that contain it because I enjoy the scent.
