Front Yard Decor Ideas
Now that the weather is finally nice again, I am just so excited to get back outside. Have you had a chance to check out these tips to create a backyard oasis on a budget?
Or, these spring gardening tips are a wonderful place to start to get your flowerbeds ready for the season. There’s so much to do right now.
There are so many different ways you can decorate your front yard. You can choose to add a few planters of flowers. Or, you can go all out and make a planter from a bicycle or even a junk car if you want.
When it comes to landscaping ideas for our front yard, we have to keep size in mind. Our home is very close to the road so anything too large just makes the yard look cluttered.
So, if you’re looking for small front yard decor ideas, you probably want to scale down your planters so that they don’t overwhelm the area you have available.
An upcycled baby stroller would make a wonderful DIY planter. I love the soft colors of these hydrangeas.

Instead of scattering your flowers all over the yard, why not make one single stunning display? A flower bed border helps keep your lawn neat and easy to mow while still providing a nice splash of color.
You can group this garden around the front of your home. Or, if you prefer, you can create a grouping of flower pots to keep the maintenance down.
Add outdoor lights to your garden
Lighting can add ambiance and security to your front yard. If you have electricity outside, you can install traditional lighting around your door or garden path.
But, if you don’t have outside electricity, there’s a wide range of solar lighting that works quite well. String lights can create a beautiful soft display of lighting in your garden.
Or, if you have one particularly pretty display, they do make garden spotlights that you can use to highlight a specific area.
Water fountains for a small garden
There are all sorts of water fountains you can add to your front yard. Depending on the type you choose, you can make a rustic garden or a modern style garden with geometric shapes.
Because we have a rural location, I usually opt for something that uses natural elements like a trickling rock fountain or a tiered solar fountain made of stone.
You will want to be sure that the fountain you choose ties into the other elements in your yard. Consider the types of stone planters you’ll be using when making a choice.
Use planters in your front yard
Adding a few planters is one of the easiest ways to dress up your yard. You don’t need to dig up your yard or break out the power tools.
You can group several planters near your front door. Or, you can add them at the base of your driveway. Plus, they come in a variety of different sizes, styles, and colors.
A wind chime or a spinner is a fun accent to add to your garden. Or, a gazing globe can draw your visitors’ eyes toward a small garden display.

If you’re still not sure what to do first, here are a few more suggestions.
- Make sure that you look at your home front the road to see what your visitors see when they arrive.
- Try to hide your garbage bins and recycling buckets if possible. And, make sure that the kid’s toys and your gardening tools get put away at the end of the day. Clutter can be a distraction.
- If you have an empty area, consider adding a vertical planter with colorful flowers. A plant stand with a welcome sign can make a huge difference.
- Create a border to your walkway. You can do this with a colorful floral border. Or, you can add crushed stones and greenery.
- Remember to consider your house color when choosing your garden accents and planters.
- If you have a front porch, you can add a garden bench or even one of these egg chairs. Even a small outdoor bench or table with a potted plant can make your home look welcoming.
I hope I’ve given you a few front yard decor ideas to get started.
