Cooking the Dutch Oven way is the ideal way to cook while camping. I love my Dutch Oven. In the summer we can cook over an open fire outside. In the winter I can use it on my wood stove. Or, I can just use it on top of the kitchen stove. A Dutch Oven is basically a large cast-iron pot with high sides and a lid.

Cooking the Dutch Oven Way
So, what’s so special about cooking the Dutch Oven way? A Dutch Oven is an easy way to cook over an open fire that eliminates hot spots. Because the cast iron pan is so thick, it will more evenly distribute the heat rather than focusing it in one area.
It can be used for a variety of different types of foods including stews, biscuits, chili, and roasts.

Pro Tips
You can really use a Dutch Oven anywhere you can use a traditional pot or pan. However, if you are going to be using this over an open fire, I highly recommend that you skip the enameled Dutch ovens and invest in a good quality cast iron Dutch Oven. The Lodge brand is by far my favorite because it is a very high quality that lasts for years.
