Zesty Guacamole Recipe

Guacamole is one of my favorite ways to enjoy avocados.  California and Florida produce most of the avocados in the United States.  My preference is to purchase organic avocados from one of these places.

Adding guacamole to one of your meals is a great way to get a boost in lutein and healthy monounsaturated fats. Organic guacamole can be really expensive in the store so I decided that it was time to find an easy guacamole recipe and make my own.

I am part of the A Year With Six Sisters’ Stuff blog tour and this zesty guacamole recipe is from their latest cookbook that contains 52 menu plans, recipes, and ideas to bring families together.  Dinner time is a great time to reconnect with your family.

As a mom of a 16-year-old and 20-year-old, it gets harder to reconnect as they get older.  Everyone enjoys sitting down at the table when we have Mexican food, especially with this healthy guacamole recipe.

Tools / equipment for this recipe

  • Food processor
  • Serving bowl
  • Plastic wrap

If you do not have a food processor, you can do this in a blender. Or, you can mash it by hand if you need to. It’s just a lot easier to do n a food processor.

What to add to guacamole to make it taste better?

  • Citrus
  • Chiles
  • Fresh herbs
  • Salt
  • Chorizo
  • Garlic

What to put in guacamole to keep it from turning brown

You can place a thin layer of citrus juice over the top of the guacamole. This will help form a barrier to keep out the air. You can use either lemon juice or lime.

How much in advance can I make guacamole?

As long as you keep the air from turning it brown, you can make this up the day before. If it does turn brown, it’s still good. It is only the color that is off. It just doesn’t look as appealing as green guacamole.

Guacamole is great as a snack with tortilla chips or serve it with chili, tacos, or any other favorite Mexican dish.  You can make this easy guacamole recipe spicier by adding chili peppers if that’s your taste preference.

We enjoy guacamole smooth but if you’d rather have yours with more chunks, just pulse it less time in the food processor or cut and stir it all by hand.

If you’re looking for an easy guacamole recipe with salsa, you can stir in a tablespoon of salsa before you serve this. It adds a bit more of a kick and some texture to your recipe.

It’s a great option for those that want a zesty guacamole recipe.
