As the furnace comes on more and more frequently, keeping my skin moisturized becomes more difficult. If I’m not careful, my skin gets dry, flaky, and irritated.
Easy DIY Sugar Scrub With Essential Oils
I generally use brown sugar or demerara sugar in my sugar scrubs because they have a slightly larger grain to them than white granulated sugar. These means that my skin gets a little bit more exfoliation. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and brings blood to the surface of your skin.
This leads to new skin growth and a healthy glow. This is a definite plus when you’re dealing with aging skin. I also added in chia seeds for a bit more texture since winter is so rough on my skin. You could use any kind of small seed including poppy seeds. Chia just happens to be what I had on hand.
One of my favorite essential oils is lavender and when I’m relaxing at night, that’s the essential oil I choose. In this case, I chose peppermint essential oil because it wakes me up and it’s great for my sinuses. Peppermint essential oil is also great for muscle pain so this easy DIY sugar scrub with essential oils is perfect to use after a workout.
There are no exact measurements when making a sugar scrub. It’s not like baking. Just take some dark brown sugar, some chia seeds and some avocado oil and mix it together until it holds its shape if you squeeze it between your fingers. It should not be dripping oil. Then add a few drops of essential oil and stir. Store it in a glass jar with a lid between uses. A small canning jar works wonderfully for this.

I really have to get back into this. I used to make scrubs, soaps, bath bombs…all kinds of neat girly-type things. It was so much fun – I’d be like the mad scientist, in my kitchen at night, whipping up my latest creation. Thanks for reminding me there are still fun times to be had!
Glad to. It really is loads of fun!

I used to do that when I had my craft business. I haven’t in years though.
