Homemade Cream of Tomato Soup with Ravioli
There is nothing more satisfying on a cold winter day than a nice, hot cup of homemade soup. I make a lot of homemade soup and I generally look for easy soup recipes to save time in the kitchen.
One of my favorite soups is cream of tomato soup but all the canned soups I find in the store contain sugar or high fructose corn syrup of some sort in them. I don’t want that in my homemade cream of tomato soup.
Semi homemade tomato soup
As much as I love cooking from scratch, I do take some shortcuts to save time. Yes, I could make my homemade cream of tomato soup from fresh tomatoes but I don’t have them in the middle of the winter.
When I buy canned tomato products, the tomatoes have been canned at the peak of freshness. They haven’t been trucked halfway across the country from a warmer climate and left to sit in the grocery store for days before they’re purchased.
When I do buy them fresh in the winter, they go bad before I have a chance to use them.
I started my homemade cream of tomato soup using Muir Glen Organic Tomato Paste. I love Muir Glen products and pick them up weekly at our local Shaws grocery store.
They have everything from canned tomato products to soup and spaghetti sauce.
How many people does this recipe serve?
One can of tomato paste is the perfect size to make this soup for two people. If you’re feeding more, just double or triple the recipe. Remember when you’re done to recycle the metal can!
This is an amazing soup to enjoy on a cold day. By keeping Muir Glen Organic Tomato Paste in the cupboard all the time, I can enjoy it any time I want whether I happen to have fresh tomatoes on hand or not.
Canned food helps waste less food, saving time and money. It also helps reduce our impact on the environment.
Did you know that Americans throw away 15 percent to 20 percent of the fresh fruits and vegetables they purchase every year? I had no idea!
Have you ever tried making your own celery powder? It tastes so much better in this soup than store-bought. If you love ravioli, why not try this ravioli lasagna casserole.
What’s your favorite cold weather soup?

This recipe looks really divine and tasty! I would love to make it for my family as well.
Thanks, Amy. It really was amazing and so easy to make!
This looks delicious! we make homemade soups quite frequently and always have Muir Glen in the pantry!
Thanks, Diane. We always have Muir Glen too. Love the organic products.
I love making a good, hearty soup. My kids would eat this in a heartbeat, minus the ravioli (more for me). I’ve always heard that Muir Glen Organic tomatoes are the best.
They are definitely my number one choice, Dede!
Looks great and super-easy! Need to spice it up a little with some garlic or peppers though!
Thanks, Scott! Garlic sounds good but not so sure about peppers!
This looks super yummy. ♥ I avoid canned “cream of” soups like the plague, so this is a great recipe for us.
Thanks, Alena. I don’t buy the canned soups either. Homemade is best for soup!
This sounds amazing! I make a “tomato soup and noodles” bowl at least once a week – just macaroni noodles with tomato soup from a can. I’ve always used cream and milk to make my soup – can’t stand it made with just water. But this is SUCH an easy way to make “real” tomato soup, love it! And I don’t know why I never thought of adding ravioli. Tortelli would probably be yummy too! Thanks!
Thanks, Meagan. That sounds really good too. I love a nice cream soup on a cold day!
