If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed that I am working on getting healthier. Sometimes it’s difficult to keep up the motivation day after day. I do pretty well most of the time and I think that I am in finally in good shape again. Because I have gotten back down to where I want my weight to be, I’ve started to slack off a little bit and that needs to stop. A few back slides will put me right back where I was before and I am not willing to let that happen.
Tips To Beat Average And Be The Best You Can Be
I don’t want to accept average if I know that I can do better. I want to push myself and be the very best that I can be whether that is in healthy eating or healthy exercise or some other area of my life. When I’m riding my stationary bike, lately I have been selecting the middle road when it comes to tension and speed. I need to push that to the next level so I know that I’m really working as hard as I can and not just taking a leisurely ride through the countryside. I want to feel like I’m biking my way up a mountain. That’s the effort that is going to let me beat average and be the best I can be. Here are a few tips to beat average and be the best you can be:
- Set your goal. Make sure it is S.M.A.R.T (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely)
- Visualize your goal. Look in the mirror and repeat your goal to yourself every day.
- Ask for help. Ask your friends and family for support and reminders if you get off track.
- Find someone who inspires you and has met the same type of goal. Learn more about how they did it.
- Focus on healthy choices. Being the best you can be is a lifestyle change. You won’t get there by cutting corners.
- Try something new. Don’t get in a rut. Change up your exercise routine a bit or try some new healthy foods.
- Find others with similar goals. Find other people who are working on the same goal so you can work together.
If you feel the same way that I do, you need to head to GNC. GNC has everything you need for everything you can be. Did you know that GNC started as the “General Nutrition Center” nearly 80 years ago in Pittsburgh as a place to go to live well and perform at your best? This still holds true today after all that time. GNC is in the business of helping you beat average everyday so that you can do and feel your very best. Average is for the other guys. #BeatAverage
Have you heard of Averagisms? There are four different Averigisms that you can find on the GNC Live Well Facebook page. My favorite is Average Overachieves at Underachieving. #TeamGNC

Staying focus is really a challenge, but if we are really determined to stick to our goals, then we can always bring out the best in us.
I agree, Jeremy. It really can be a challenge but I work at it each day.
I have been working harder on making goals that are measurable. I want to actually see my goals and progress.
Totally agree, Sharon!
Great tips! I just partnered up with another writer to keep ourselves accountable for our writing goals (hers is a novel, mine is an ebook). I know it’s not the same as fitness goals but writing keeps my brain sharp!
That’s fantastic. How exciting that you’re writing a book!
Great tips. I am always trying to impress on my kids how important it is to be the best you can be
That’s a really important lesson for them to learn!
Great reminders! It is so easy to get stuck in a rut and forget about taking care of ourselves.
Very true, Diane! It really is.
You’ve inspired me to do more! Thank you for this wonderful post. 🙂
I’m so glad, Tasha!
Love your suggestion to keep goals specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. If you haven’t thought them out and measured you might not be able to achieve them.
That’s it exactly, Jenn. You have to really know if they are doable.
Great tips! So many people are nervous or afraid to ask for help and it’s good for both people involved.
Thanks, Val. Asking for help can be difficult.
That’s where my daughter shops for her supplements and whatnot. Great tips to push oneself for more!
Thanks, Liz. They have a great selection.
I try to take time just for myself. If I don’t I definitely can’t be the best I can be.
I feel the same way, Toni!
I take walks each night but I’m no where at the weight I’d like to be!! I’m so addicted to bad food!
I love walking too! Great way to get in shape!
Wonderful tips, we can always use a reminder and encouragement.
Thanks, Sandra. I know I can!
Great tips- thanks for the reminder!
Always glad to help, Emily!
I like the Finding Like Minded People idea. . . I should start a group of working moms in my area that meet to work out at night ! Thanks for the inspiration . And I need to head to GNC to get some healthy fuel in a supplement 🙂 my husband loves their men’s vitamin packs.
That would be a fantastic idea, Jen! I wish I had something like that here!
Great tips. Talking and spending time with people who have similar goals always seems to help me out.
Thanks, Pam. It really does help to have other people around with the same goals.
I have to say that asking for help is hard for me. These are really great tips!
I find it difficult sometimes too, Angela, It’s like I worry that I shouldn’t need help.
great tips, I like how you made this about helping us reach OUR goals and not those of others, or what others want from us. thanks!
That’s definitely important, Amanda!
Great inspiration! I agree that setting goals is important and helps me a lot.
It definitely helps to stay on track!
I try to be healthy but I, too, have been slacking off pretty bad lately. I’ve been eating out at least 2 to 3 times a week and because of my up and down health I never know when I’ll be able to get exercise in. That needs to stop! I love all the tips you shared but I must say focusing on healthy options is something I need to start doing again.
Eating out is such a challenge! I so wish there were more healthy options!
Set goals! Yes! The biggest message I try to teach my girls. It is so rewarding when they are met or exceeded!
That is such an important lesson, Tara!
It took me a long time to leave my comfort zone and try new things. I’m so glad I did – thanks for this, it inspires me to do more!
Glad I helped, Tammi!
Great tips. It’s so easy to lose focus, but you have to keep your eyes on your goal!!!
Very true, Jennifer!
I am the worst at asking for help in this situation. I never even tell anyone I am trying because I am worried what they will think if I fail. I know that if I told people I would have more of a support system and motivation to achieve my goal.
I think that a lot of people feel that way sometimes, Brandy, but keep trying. It really does help!
Great tips! I never settle I always strive to be better :-)!
That’s definitely a great attitude!
Those are all great tips. I struggle with getting myself to my spin & zumba classes sometimes. I know they are things I need to do, so I befriended a couple of other regulars in the classes and now we all motivate each other to go!
Thanks, Robin! That is a great way to beat average!
