Are you wondering how to reduce cat litter mess? We love our little fur babies, but sometimes the messes they make are so frustrating! I don’t want to spend any more time than I have to cleaning my house. I’d much rather be enjoying time outside in the garden, taking a walk or just reading a good book. But, if there is one thing that I really don’t enjoy, it’s stepping in cat litter that’s been tracked outside of the litter box. Reduce cat litter mess in your home

Reduce Cat Litter Mess

Since our cats are indoor cats, they use the litter box rather than go outside. With two cats, our litter box can see a lot of traffic some days. We have a small home and the litter box is in our one and only bathroom. Litter that gets tracked out of the box ends up being tracked out of the bathroom and into the rest of our home.  So, how can you reduce cat litter mess in your home?

Cat litter tracking mat

Have you tried a cat litter tracking mat? You place your cat’s litter box on top of a special mat that helps trap the cat litter that gets kicked out of the litter box. The mat has special grooves that keep the litter in one place. That means not get tracked all over the house. When it’s time to clean up, just lift the mat and dispose of the loose litter. woman with black cat on couch

Another option is to use a low tracking cat litter. And, it clumps tight with Fresh Step® ClumpLock® technology for easy cleanup. Buy it at W almart

Low dust cat litter

Some of the mess from the litter box is from the dust that the cats kick up every time they use the litter box. It seems to settle on top of things and it means I need to dust more frequently especially with allergies.  A low dust cat litter will result in less dust in the air which means less cleaning time for me. click here to learn morecat playing with toy Face it, what happens in the litter box should stay in the litter box. Fresh Step® Clean Paws™ Multi-Cat litter is designed to do just that – keep the litter in the litter box. Did you know that there are more than three million cats in US shelters waiting to find their forever home? We’ve gotten all of our cats from our local Humane Society. Litter box rejection is a big reason people abandon cats but it doesn’t have to happen. Always make changes slowly with your pets. That holds true with litter, food, and environment.

If you adopt from a shelter, speak with them about the products they’re used to. Then, when you bring them home, use those same products as much as possible and transition to new ones slowly. Do you have any other cat litter tracking hacks that work for you?

  1. We have 4 cats. I do have a litter tracking mat. It helps, but we still get litter all over the floor. I’m going to have to try the Fresh Step Clean Paws. Thanks for the suggestion!

  2. Wow Ellen, this cat litter sounds like something that I need to check into for our cats, they are both real mess makers when it comes to that cat-litter too. I also have a black cat named Ozzy, (he likes to eat! on the chubby side) and a orange & white cat named Buddy. My husband and I love them both, and it is funny to witness their different personalities around the house.

  3. I put a garbage bag on a cat’s toilet, and only then I pour sand. So I do not need to touch the cat’s toilet with his hands and it is always clean. But I plan to buy a special automated cat toilet in the near future. It is not too cheap, but I think that this purchase will pay off.
