I’ve often wondered about the connection between posture and back pain. I’ve had lower back pain for most of my life and lately, I have been wondering if there is a way to improve your posture that will help reduce back pain.

Posture and Back Pain
Posture is something that I am not really aware of most of the time. I don’t notice I’m slouching until someone takes a photograph of me or mentions it to me. Because I work at a desk most of the day, I find that I am often slouching in my chair while typing. Slouching is one of the best examples of poor posture.
Good posture
So, what is good posture? Good posture is also referred to as having a neutral spine. When you have a neutral spine, there are three natural curves that are present. When you practice good posture, you put the least amount of strain on the natural connecting muscles and ligaments. If you tend to slouch, a posture corrector will help train you to sit properly.
Upper back pain
In order to get real relief from upper back pain while you sit, you need natural and balanced posture. If you spend a lot of time sitting at your desk, be certain that your monitor is centered properly. You should be able to gaze straight ahead and not look up, down or to the side to see your monitor. Don’t cross your legs or place your feet on the wheels of your chair. Keep your feet flat on the ground.
Poor posture
Poor posture can be caused by any number of reasons but is most often seen as slouching. Your shoulders should not round forward when you sit or stand. Over time, poor posture can cause certain muscles to elongate or shorten and can cause chronic back or neck pain. A lower back support pillow can help remind you to sit properly.
Can you fix bad posture?
Yes, you can fix bad posture if you try. Pay attention to which ways your posture needs to be improved. Are your shoulders slouching forward? Is your head tilted forward toward the computer? Are your hips tilted when you sit on a tucked foot or cross your legs? Here are several exercises to help reverse bad posture.
