If you want to help your local animal shelter, now is the perfect time. Have you heard of kitten season? It’s the time of year when local animal shelters are flooded with unwanted kittens. Typically, kitten season starts in the spring and continues on through late summer or early fall.  Animal shelters receive so many unwanted kittens during kitten season that they can use our help now more than ever.

Help Your Local Animal Shelter During Kitten Season

I love cats and we have 3 that we have adopted that are like little fuzzy children. The first thing that we did when we adopted them was to make sure that they were up to date on their immunizations and had been spayed and neutered. Even though our cats are all inside cats, there is always the possibility that one will get loose and be the cause of an unwanted litter of kittens. As much as we adore our cats, we don’t want more than 3.

Not everyone gets their adult cats fixed and that is part of the reason there are so many kittens dropped off during kitten season. During this time, our local shelter needs extra help with food, blankets, toys and of course donations.  Hills is doing their part to help as well with their Hills Food Shelter & Love® Program.

Hills is encouraging loving individuals to support their local shelters by caring for and spending time with local shelter pets. Even if you cannot adopt a pet right now, you could spend some time with a pet that needs a little extra love. The ultimate goal of the program is to bring some love home. Hill’s has provided over $240 million worth of food to nearly 1,000 shelters, 365 days a year helping over 6 million pets find a new home…and counting.

If you’re considering adopting a cat, please visit your local animal shelter and choose a cat or kitten that’s waiting there for their forever home. If you cannot adopt a pet right now, please support this program. It’s so important that kittens start their lives with the proper nutrition from a food like Hill’s® Science Diet® Kitten Healthy Development food. Every time you choose Hill’s® Science Diet® for your own pets, you’re helping them continue their mission of supporting shelter pets when they need it most.

  1. I did not know there was a kitten season. We don’t have goo luck with pets in our house, but I never thought of just dropping off some food or blankets at a shelter.

  2. We have a lot of stray cats locally, especially this time of year. We try to make donations to the local animal shelter every month, and volunteer time on the premises cleaning kennels and socializing cats. Hills is definitely supporting a great cause!

  3. I love that little barn you have in your yard! We are not cat people, but I would never want to see an animal hurt, cold, or endangered. This is a great way to give back!
