Shrimp Cocktail Sauce Recipe
I like offering finger food and appetizers when we entertain but in the summer I don’t want to heat up the oven to cook them.
That rules out a lot of the traditional appetizers that we offer when we have friends over. Thankfully, shrimp with cocktail sauce works even on the hottest day of the year.
Why is it called shrimp cocktail? Originally, it was served in a cocktail glass during prohibition time.
This product presentation was made with AAWP plugin.
What’s in cocktail sauce?
If you look at a bottle of cocktail sauce on the grocery store shelf, chances are you are going to see high fructose corn syrup as an ingredient.
You will probably also see soybean oil. Both of these things mean that chances are pretty good that your cocktail sauce will be loaded with GMOs.
What’s shrimp cocktail sauce made from?
It’s generally ketchup, a mild chili sauce, and fresh lemon juice. You can also add a splash of your favorite Worcestershire sauce if you like.
Start with organic, GMO-free ingredients to ensure your cocktail sauce is healthy and delicious. It’s easy to make homemade shrimp cocktail sauce with this recipe.
What else can I do with cocktail sauce?
- Add some to your omelette or frittata
- Top your burger
- Add it to shrimp fried rice
- Mix it into meatloaf
- Splash it on deviled eggs
How long will this stay good?
Please use this within 48 hours. Keep it refrigerated in a plastic container with a tightly fitting lid.

We rarely make shrimp since I was always the only one who ate it. But now that it’s summer, we might have to grill some when we have company. I’m excited to try this recipe.

I love making my own sauces, they often taste better and I know exactly what is in them. My husband loves shrimp, he would probably enjoy it!
That’s it exactly, Kimberly. I totally control the ingredients.

I never thought to make cocktail sauce myself at home instead of buying it already made. I’ll have to give this a try. We love eating shrimp and trying new sauces. My husband using that antacid.
It’s really easy to make your own & I like the taste so much better!
This looks delicious. My mom has always made her own cocktail sauce. I might have to give her this recipe and let her have a go!

I love Pepcid. The combination of an acid reducer and an antacid is a real winner. It’s especially great for me, because I love spicy food.
I do too, Dawn, but I pay for it!
