It doesn’t get much more relaxing than that for me and I got to enjoy it while I was on a recent trip to Kennebunk, Maine. Saint Anthony’s Franciscan Monastery in Maine was built in the 1940s and is adjacent to the Franciscan Guest House. It was only a short walk from the hotel we stayed in and is open free to the public.
Saint Anthony’s Franciscan Monastery in Maine
When I go on vacation, I like to relax. I’m not into parties and the nightlife. I want a few quiet minutes to relax and unwind and enjoy nature. The Saint Anthony’s Franciscan Monastery in Maine is located about four miles from Kennebunk and is on the western side of the Kennebunk River.
There are a number of shrines on the property including the Shrine of Saint Anthony and the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. You can also visit the Chapel of the Stations of the Cross.
In 1947, the estate was purchased by Lithuanian Franciscans so much of the architecture and artwork are done in Lithuanian style.
The new Saint Anthony’s Chapel was designed in the 1960’s by an architect from Canada. The bas-relief, altars, stained glass windows, candlesticks and chandeliers, were designed by Professor Vytautas Jonynas who has won Gold Medals for his art.
The Saint Anthony’s Franciscan Monastery in Maine is a beautiful, relaxing place to visit. It’s entirely unstructured so you can feel free to wander through the grounds at your own pace and stop and pray or meditate when you want to. You can attend Holy Mass daily and Confessions are heard when requested. You can also light candles for special prayers and give offerings when desired.
If you’re looking for something relaxing to do in the Kennebunk area, you’ll want to visit Saint Anthony’s Franciscan Monastery (28 Beach Avenue, Kennebunk).
