August is National Eye Exam Month

Last Updated on September 23, 2020 by Ellen Christian

A few weeks ago, my daughter came to me and told me she thought she might need glasses.  I’m not sure why that surprised me but it did. I started wearing glasses when I was three and wore them all the time until I was about 13. At that point, the doctor told me I wouldn’t need them any more.  Like any teenager, I was thrilled not to have to wear glasses any longer and promptly stopped thinking about my eye health.  I didn’t give it any more thought until later in life as an adult.  I started noticing that I was having a problem seeing things that were far away.  Seeing street signs while I was driving and watching television started being more difficult.  After visiting an eye doctor, I started wearing glasses for driving and watching television.

  2. I started wearing glasses when I was in 4th grade.  Each annual checkup, my prescription got stronger.  When I was 20, I got contacts, but had to stop using them when I was pregnant.  Since then, my prescription hasn’t changed in 30 years!

  3. I started squinting at small writing a couple of years ago and just recently broke down and bought reading glasses. I just bought them at the drug store and I really need to go in for a checkup!
