Upcycled Candle Holders for Mardi Gras

Since I’m working on decluttering and not bringing in any more things into the house, I decided I would make a Mardi Gras candle holder myself. I have several plain glass candle holders so I knew it would be possible to do a few upcycled candle holders.

Upcycled basically means taking an item that you were going to toss or recycle and turning it into an item that has more value. It’s like the way I upcycled an Altoid tin into an aromatherapy travel kit.

The tin would have been tossed. The aromatherapy travel kit has value. If you want cute Mardi Gras candles or Mardi Gras decorations that don’t cost a lot, try making these.

Materials

Directions:

  • Put the candle holder in the freezer overnight to remove any wax that may be stuck on it.
  • Wash and dry it thoroughly.
  • Decide whether you want to use all the same color or alternating rows of different colors.
  • Measure and cut the beads so that they fit evenly around the candle holder as best you can.

  • Carefully glue the beads around the glass candle holder and allow to dry completely. You may need to do one row at a time and let each row dry to keep them from falling off.

Enjoy! That’s all there is to it. If you don’t have a glass candle holder, you could do this same thing with a baby food jar or a 4-ounce canning jar. Just be certain if you use a container that isn’t intended for candles that you don’t let the flame get near the side of the jar. I find that using a small tea light candle with a battery works best in this case.

This doesn’t have to be just for Mardi Gras. It can be for anyone that loves purple green and gold candles. If you like to upcycle, have you thought about Altoid tin crafts?

Have you ever upcycled candle holders to change their appearance?

Finally, you may want to try this Christmas project ideas using decoupage.

  1. These are cute! We have a ton of these laying around from various parties we've attended and I wouldn't haven thought to use them this way. I bet the light shines through them nicely at night too:)

  2. What an easy and fun decoration! We just had a mini Mardi Gras dinner, but now I know how to use the extra beads for next year!
