So you may remember I told you that I’d be getting a Schwinn bicycle to ride around town. My current bicycle was ancient and in need of repairs so I was thrilled to have a brand new, shiny Schwinn bicycle to enjoy. I was super excited when it arrived and I had my Dad come over and put it together for me. Schwinn even sent me a helmet to wear when I rode too. My task for the week was to enjoy my Schwinn on my adventures around my neighborhood. There’s not an awful lot in my neighborhood considering I live way out in the country. The closest corner store is about four miles away which is a bit beyond my bicycle riding abilities especially considering the heat advisory we’ve been having here.
Lesson learned: Take time to smell the flowers
Armed with my shiny new, white Schwinn bike, I headed off up the road to visit a neighbor. We live at the bottom of a hill so the first place I needed to go was up hill. That was no problem at all with my new bike and when I got there, I made sure to take a few minutes to smell the flowers and get my energy back to continue the climb up hill.
Lesson learned: Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.
The next day, I headed back up the road to visit the llamas that live at the top of the hill. It was a super hot day and they really didn’t want to come out of the shade. I don’t blame them at all. I was getting a bit warm too and took a few minutes to sit in the shade under a tree. I was starting to get a bit warm so I headed home to get out of the sun. Thankfully, the way home was all down hill.
Lesson learned: Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride
The next day it was even hotter and I decided to take my bike to the creek up the road so I could splash around for a bit. Instead of sticking to the dirt road, this required I actually ride on the paved road which I don’t do a lot of. I love how smooth and comfortable the ride was on my new Schwinn bike. After a little fun in the water, I headed home.
Lesson learned: A little rain each day will fill the rivers to overflowing
Whenever I’m away for a while, it feels good to come home again. I know I’ll be riding around on more adventures on my Schwinn bicycle. It’s super comfortable and rides really well. I love that it’s white and pink and it has a handy spot on the back that I can put my bag just in case I need something while I’m out. The most important lesson I learned during my week of riding my Schwinn is that it’s important to take time out of my busy day to do something as simple as ride my bike up the road. Not only is it good for you physically, it’s good for you emotionally to have quiet time to reflect on the beauty of nature and the peace of a little time alone.

If we’ve learned anything from more than a century of building bikes, it’s that some things never get old. From that first taste of freedom, when the training wheels come off, to the wonder of a parent letting go, and all of the ups and downs in between, magical moments in life happen on a Schwinn. Life’s a ride. Enjoy it on a Schwinn.
